i was trying to explain to the wife...sure parkassist is ok if you were the only person on the road but what about all the other people that don't have it and are going to smack your bumpers anyway??

My ex-girlfriend routinely "tapped in" to parking spaces with her Audi TT ... those bumpers were a disaster.

It's helpful (and standard) in the cab at the back, because you can't see a damn thing out the rear window, but even then it doesn't work particularly well, you get real close before it makes a peep. The camera and sensors on my Audi are much better and more progressive. I'd look aftermarket.

Living without park assist is totally doable... I've been doing this for 25 years.

My 991 is the first car I've ever had with park assist (front and back on a lot car) and to me a total waste of $995. As noted, it doesn't read low curbs and parking blocks, yet beeps like crazy over other non-issues. There is a foot high fern garden lining my driving, those make it go off.
I don't think you'll miss it.

You don't need that stuff at all with a small car... in the USA

This is my first car with park assist. I don't love the look but it works well. I have a shallow garage and it works wonderfully. I never touch now. Doesn't help with cement blocks but i'm happy.

You could think about installing a backup camera. Someone here did it and hooked it into the PCM, looked pretty good.

Or you can just look over your shoulder like people did in the olden days.

I find I can't rely on it 100% as when I come into a parking space at store etc., stop....no yellow or red zone on park assist. Get out of car, get back in and start up and now I can be in the yellow or even the red zone!!! It doesn't react quick enough when pulling quickly into a spot unless you just crawl into the spot IMO

I like it for backing into my driveway, I have a cedar on passenger side that is always blowing around and I can stay clear of it without scratching car.

I didn't order car so it already had it......I would have ordered it though as I had on Cayenne and needed it on it!

Every time I look at my front and rear bumper I wish I didn't have park assist. The car would be much prettier without them.

Also, I drive a LOT of friking Los Angeles traffic and every 4 or 5 complete stops or so some a** will get too close to me on the freeway from behind in stop and go traffic and it will cause me to have to turn it off and then I forget to turn it back on later when I need it because I've become dependent on it. I'm lazy and think it's on.

Also since I'm an impatient SOB I feel the car icon in the middle of the PCM when I'm in reverse and or leaving a parking spot stays on too long and deprives me of changing the song on the head unit. Damn. 1% er problems. Damn again.

Just be totally happy without it. You don't need it. Without it you will keep your parking skill frosty.

It is may be useful but there is a glitch with the 991 system that has no remedy. It goes on for no reason intermittently. MY PCM was replaced but it still does this.

It also may not detect low curbs. So there are pros and cons. Don't lose any sleep over it.

Zelig is correct. Out of nowhere every once and a while it beeps and I think my daughter has left her phone n my car.

I did replace my stock chin with the Spasm chin and it's so sensitive it reads it a quarter inch off the pavement when I'm sneaking in a driveway at angle.

My car came with mirrors to help when that doesn't work.
