I did the C Q, and I think the results where amazing. My installer came to my house and spent 14 hrs polishing and repairing existing swirl marks. He said product would easily last 3 to 4 years, if I take care when hand washing.

Just had my 991 and NSX detailed by a fella who works on my cars once a year. He's a perfectionist who spends many hrs on each car. I supply room and board

After polishing, the 991 had C Quartz and Reload applied. At my suggestion, the NSX was finished with Sonax Black Polymer Net Shield. We'll see how well the two finishes hold up, but initially, I thought that the (23 yo) NSX looked a bit better.

OptiCoat cost about $70 and you can apply it yourself. I did mine with excellent results. They key is to make sure car is swirl free before you apply it, as it will lock in any imperfections.

I inquired with a local detailer and opticoat seems to cost quite a bit. Is it really that much more beneficial than say applying a coat of high end sealant every few months? If opticoat is a permanent application, are there any drawbacks? ie...more orange peel texture?, trapped dust specs?

No drawbacks to Opticoat except the cost. But if you consider the cost of reapplying a high end wax/sealant over 3-4 years, you have already paid for the Opticoat treatment.

The price has gone up recently for the Opticoat professional.

I paid $350 for my wife's BMW around 1.5 years ago and my 991 cost me $500 a couple of months ago when I picked up my 991. Same detailer quoted $650 for cQuartz Finest - it is more expensive than Opticoat - the cost goes up of there is any significant paint correction that needs to be done beforehand.

This is for a full new car prep, minor paint correction if needed, detail in and out and Opticoat treatment to all exterior surfaces including the wheels, exhaust tips, exterior glass surfaces, etc.

Another benefit is brake dust does not adhere to the wheels as easily and the car is much easier to clean.

Because waxing my car is cheaper than paying a therapist, if I had my car Opti Coated, could I still wax/sealant when I felt the urge?

I have no idea what the effect Opti Coat would have on the orange peel issue, but with respect to trapped dust spec, if the prep work is done professionally and properly, then it shouldn't be an issue (which is why I wouldn't just trust anyone to do it, much less suggest a DIY).

Yes, it's expensive, but the cost of waxing and the additional times I would wash the car without Opti Coat (versus the number of times I would wash it with Opti Coat) I think makes the upfront cost approximately break even (even assuming the time-value of money with a market interest rate) at about 4 years, which is about how long I plan to keep the car.

Things like Opti Coat and CQuarts or other competitors like ceramic coatings are not for everyone. Some people just don't care all that much about maintaining the exterior appearance of their cars, and are just as happy with an automated dish washer system for their car as they would be with a heavy rainstorm.

It's obviously a personal decision, but as far as results, so far I think its worked as advertised.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Yes, you can wax over the Opticoat. I had both my cars paint corrected/Opticoated last Fall but honestly, not enough time has passed to render a verdict.

I checked their site and amazingly enough they don't have anything in LA. The closest one to my home is in Santa Barbara (it's closer than OC). Guess LA is not a big enough market. Will look at other products.
