Default Cig lighter outlet switched?

Couldn't find the answer in the manual--is the cigarette lighter outlet near driver's elbow in the console always getting electric current, regardless of car's ignition status? I put in my Passport detector yesterday and ran the extended smart power cord along the window molding, under the glove box and over to the cig lighter outlet. I noticed, however, that when I turned the car off, the detector remained on. Obviously not ideal--don't want to forget to unplug the detector every time I park and end up running down the battery.

Does anyone know if this outlet remains on for just a short amount of time after the ignition is switched off, or is it permanently powered? If always on, is there a coding option to make it switched by the ignition?

I know the ultimate solution is to have a hardwire done to the mirror, but I'm not ready to do that yet.

Thanks.

My understanding is that it stays live.

The passenger footwell outlet is linked to the ignition, but does stay live for a period of time after the ignition is turned off, and I think it is activated when you open the door. I'd be surprised if the console outlet is any different... but I don't have one.

Well, one of these has got to stay live because that's how the battery maintainer works.

Indeed.... passenger footwell stays live for about 30 min after the car is shut off then goes dead. It is activated when the door is opened. I have forgotten to turn
my V1 detector off & it chirps alive when I open either driver or passenger
doors. I try to remember, but if not, no worries for dead battery.

The Smoker's package outlet seems to be live 100% of the time.

Good idea, but my detector's power cord has functions at the plug end (alert indicator, mute button), so I need the plug close to my reach in the driver's seat.

Good info. Thanks. Now the question is, can that armrest outlet be programmed to be switched with the ignition, or at that point is it just easier to have the detector hardwired to the wiring in the mirror?

Go to the good to know app and search electrical system and you will see a diagram illustrating the position of the outlet in the passenger footwell

Also, interesting statement in the good to know app

"If the engine is not running and the accessories are switched on, the vehicle battery will be discharged. The power supply is interrupted after 30 minutes to protect the vehicle battery. If the load is to be switched on again, the ignition must be switched on once."

So based on that statement the electrical system cuts power to the outlets after 30mins of te ignition being switched off

So wait, lots of ppl have said the footwell outlet is where you should hook up a charger, but now ppl are saying its off after 30 mins. For a standard 991 (no smoking packagge) where do you connect the "factory" (for lack of a betetr term) "Porsche" charger to?

+1. Had mine hardwired to the fuse box in the passenger footwell with a wire inside the A pillar that snakes out right by my passenger sun visor and plugs into my Passport 9500 which is mounted with a visor clip to the passenger visor. Starts up every time I start the engine, and shuts off as soon as I turn the car off and open the door to exit.

I've used my charger in the armrest and footwell positions and they both work.
