Default End all be all tire replacement thread

I know a lot of you have already replaced and I'd like to get the final say on which tires to go with for my first new set.

Let's go to the poll

I'm surprised there are still so few to choose from. I mean, they are good choices. But still… where is Bridgestone?

Rare size. Limited car production numbers. More choices in a few more years.

Hands down, Michelin Super Sport. Quiet, supple, smooth and grippy. Had them on my Cayman S and will get them for the 991 when the Pirellis die.

Wow, poll results are overwhelming.

There is no Porsche N rated Pilot Super Sport correct?

Your original question said nothing about intended use, so I was reading Tire Rack Reviews thinking maybe the P Zero Corsa? And sure enough a guy using them on a GT3 has great things to say. But then there was this….
"These tires handled well for a few months driving back and forth between Miami, DC and New York, but burned off very quickly during a recent driving experience. They handle appropriately in most conditions but seem to literally melt away during drifting and other evasive maneuvers typically associated with evading other vehicles at high speed. My vehicle (2012 Aston Martin Virage Volante) gets a lot of attention from law enforcement and it is concerning that with all of the performance attributed to this vehicle, that the tires may alone be the reason it is not succesful in eluding it's pursuers."

Bit of a stretch blaming the tires, but you might want to stick with MPSS all the same.

True Chuck.

Intended use is best all around tire. Spirited weekend street driving with some track days thrown in and couple trips to Vegas for good measure.

That's exactly what I use them for. I wanted comfort for daily driving plus part time track use where I drive to and from the tracks with the same tires. The MPSS's have been the best I've used so far. And I've tried a LOT of brands.

Michelin PSS has been out for a while now. I'm wondering when other manufacturers will produce something truly comparable.

Correct. As I have a Porsche flat tire warranty that replaced two flat rears and one flat front in 18 months, I replaced mine with the same PZeros, with the exception I went with 305 rears instead of the stock 295s...

An observation- I am still on the original P0s the car came with and honestly don't have any real complaints. The SuperSports I got to replace PS2s on a Boxter S transformed the car from really good to outstanding. So I expect to go for SupersPorts when the time comes, N or no N. I have a friend, who knows Porsche performance, with the new all-weather SuperSport with sipes - AS3, and they are worth thinking about for those who don't track a lot and want the winter suppleness.

I've had them on Wifey's 650 for about 10k mi. Noticeably better handling than the the OEM Bridgestone fun-flats, but slightly harsher ride. I'll definitely be replacing the OEM rubber on the 991 with the Super Sports. That'll happen any day now as I only got about 9k mi on the Pirellis in admittedly hard driving every time I leave my garage

However, one slight downside will be less rim protection on the fronts. The front Pirellis have quite a nice protruding bead to protect the rim while the Super Sport bead is shallower, hence less rim protection. OTOH, the rear OEM Pirellis have no protective bead, so the Super Sport is better than the Pirellis in that regard.
