Default clear side markers

one of the first changes i make to my 911 cars is usually the clear side markers. just received a new set of clear led's to replace my amber lenses and tried to replace them today. however, it seems like the wiring is too short and i can't get the lenses far enough from the car to unplug the harness. anyone else come across this?

The wiring is rather tight, but always has been long enough. (I've changed 4 of these on my car and friends cars.) The harness is the same on all cars. Perhaps it is just hung up a bit inside the fender. Have you given it a gentle pull in an effort to expose more length?

Go watch the short video clip on Suncoast's web site for the clear side markers. This may help you.

thanks lex, i did watch that suncoast video a few times. the first few times i watched it because the lights were so tight i couldn't even get them unhooked from the body and thought the 991 might be different.

i'll have to go out there and fiddle with it a little more. brad might be right and maybe it's caught up on something inside the body. hmmm....

My wife has tried that on me numerous times, but much to her chagrin, it hasn't worked.

another post on this topic since it looks like we might actually break out of this horrendous winter some day soon.

the issue seems to be that there isn't enough play in the spring retention clip for me to even pop the assembly out. anyone else have this come up or suggestions on how to get it out of there? i've never had a problem on any of my 911's so this one has me perplexed.

I just swapped them out on my 2014 991. The old lenses popped out rather easily using a out-n-back pulling motion. The wiring harness is indeed quite short. I used a small screwdriver to release the locking clip on the bulb. Actually, I had to use a flashlight to see the locking clip b/c the harness was too short to allow me pull the lens assembly far enough away from the body. If you haven't already tried that it might help (flashlight + screwdriver).

I see Suncoast doesn't offer clear LED's, where did you find them, and how do they compare?

Yes they do, as does Sunset. See my other thread with the actual part numbers.

I have the new clear LED side markers in and like them quite a lot. They are more flush with the side of the fender. I ordered mine from BumperPlugs.

a little update on the difficulty i had installing the bulbs...

i think my wiring harness may not have been installed correctly. there was virtually no slack in the wires so i consequently it made getting the lights out extremely difficult. it also made making the connection difficult as there was no play in the line. i finally got it done after a lot of determination and few unsuccessful tries had me completely aggravated with the situation.

Just replaced mine this weekend.

1) pull the old markers back, and tilt out the front. The marker will release.
2) there is very little slack. slip a small screwdriver in there and pop the release on the bulb, and the marker will slide right off.
3) position the new marker, and use your fingers to slip inbetween the marker and the car to pinch the connector into the marker slot.

It is tight, but not too bad.
