i think you just said it perfectly. i think this is a solution in search of a problem. i'm on my third 911 and have never even come close to having an issue. nor have i read about one in the forums.

if you have a cab i'd use the money for a smarttop.

That would be my vote. There's some guy selling a new one for a couple of bucks less than new, if that would help (do a search). As deep as the frunk is on these cars, you've got to be quite careless to slam your hood down on something that would damage it.

And besides, you're not supposed to slam the hood. It's very thin aluminum and the compartment is air-tight.

So my vote is no. Save your money, buy some nice microfiber towels instead.

 

I thought the purpose was to save you not from slamming your hood on something too large for the frunk, but to prevent objects in your frunk from bouncing up and denting the hood while you are driving. I can see value in that.

 

On the rare occassion that I have a lot of junk-in-my-frunk, I like knowing that when the lid is closed, nothing is rubbing the paint or scratching the paint on the underside, too.

 

I like them. I figure it's better to be safe than sorry. I had one in my CaymanS and now have one in my 991 Carrera S.

I also had one in my Cayman and now have one in my 991. I've seen a very ugly picture (Planet-9, maybe) years ago of something denting a Porsche hood from below. Given I use my front trunk all the time and I've had the experience of something in my Cayman hitting hard against the underside of the hood (no damage), I put the Schild in and now don't worry about it.

 

It's good ballast up front, too.

 

I can't imagine putting anything in the trunk (frunk? boot?) that would touch the top of it under anything less than the most severe pot hole or negative 4G inverted dive drifting maneuver. Even then only soft sided luggage. Are people really damaging the insides of the trunk lids hauling stuff?

Same. They are plastic. Das Schild is the prime manufacturer. Suncoast is just a re-seller.
