Tacet-Conundrum

Having little to do today and just looking through some of the prices of our beloved cars I came across an 991 911 Turbo S. From the Description and everything else I could summize from pictures and description I went to the online Porsche configurator to see how much this car was really worth. Now don't take me as your typical freak. There was a single line in the Auction's listing that caught my attentions as listed here - "This car is brand new inside and out but at the price of a pre-owned car". Here is the listing if you wish to look

Sure the car is virtually brand spanking new with only 241 miles on it. And to me, heck it's still a brand new car beyond getting it looked over and getting an DME for Over-Revs for ****s and Giggles.

Now on the Auction, these people who have listed have done so at $195,984. With everything I picked out in the Configurator from what was said on the auction and from what I could see as an option - I even clicked a GLASS Sunroof instead of just the regular one and you can tell it's not the GLASS Sunroof the car comes in at $194,240. Which is an $1744 difference.

Now this is one of those times I wish the would show the window sticker; because hell I keep all my Window Stickers just for Historical fact for the next owner of the Automobile - it's just what I do.

There isn't too much that you can add onto this car, Since it is an Turbo S Model, that would make up another $5000 to $10000. It's just not there, Porsche figures you will add the top of the line bits and bobs.

Again, let me re-iterate I understand the nature of how auctions work. But to me there is nothing yet, or ever will be special about an 991 911 Turbo S Model now that VW own Porsche. I mean come on man, this car isn't an 993 Turbo S, then absolutely of course let the bidders bid away.

I tried sending an email to the auctioneer but for some reason eBay was having issues with their systems.

It's just funny and get's under ME SKIN just a WHEE Bit when someone comes out and states total crap just to push their product. Even if they could produce a Sticker that States a Grand Total price of over $200K - after all it's not a Cabriolet; at $195K that is too much. Sorry Charlie you bought it and drove it off the lot, you're not getting even 80% back from the dealer you just got it from.

And, just let me apologize now for my babbling because that is all this is really. I figure I'm the only one that cares about this. It's just when I saw what I UNDERLINED above I about pooped my pants.

On a lighter note, I figuring on going to Mecum and other OFF HIGH SOCIETY Car Auctions. I saw a 2002 911 Turbo Hammer for for just $41,000 with only 30K on the clock. That ain't a bad price at all.

Anyone with the cheddar to buy a nearly $200k car is a big boy or girl. They can determine what a good deal is or isn't.

I do agree with you that the auction doesn't really represent a good deal over all though.

its free enterprise. i don't see what your problem is. sure you and i may not necessarily not like/agree with it but its also none of our business. the market will adjust that number accordingly.

Meh. I'm not in the market for 991 Turbo S, but if I was I'd be getting it from my local dealer not Ebay...so who cares what someone is trying to get?

Wait about 12 years and you can buy this 991 Turbo S for about $41K too, as VW will make tens of thousands of these 991s, just like they did the 996 and 997

I think "Mr. Tacet" needs to take a chill pill.

These cars are selling for MSRP, if you can even get one. So someone, somewhere, will buy this one. Lots of folks have more money than sense.

In the first post above there is a comment about Volkswagen owing Porsche. It's actually the Porsche and Piech families holding company (Porsche Automobil Holding SE) that owns Volkswagen with 50.73% of the voting shares of Volkswagen AG!

That listing is a classified ad - which means they expect to deal. Thats not really what they expect anyone to pay. In the description, they even say as much (that they are expecting to make a deal). Many dealers will list regular 991's as a classified ad which is the MSRP. I dont think anyone is really going to pay MSRP, unless its a GT3. we should probably all just chill.

That is the car, on the dealer's dealer site, for about $1000 LESS than the eBay posting.
