You set the bar low, Richard (the intervention threshold of 'friends' barely clocks in at idle on the Porschephile tachometer) but don't worry we are here to help! While waiting for your first issue of Panorama http://www.pca.org/panorama.aspx to arrive along with your PCA membership, first issue of excellence (lower case "e") http://www.excellence-mag.com along with the book

(not to mention your car) you'll have plenty of time to immerse yourself in the best source nobody's yet mentioned: YouTube!

All the tech talk is great, and few things other than driving skills will make you appreciate your car more than understanding the history, but they won't fill your heart with pride nor eyes with tears like some of the great Porsche videos that are out there. There's a good reason these videos work so well- its because they're true. These are just a start. Enjoy!

But we're getting a little ahead of ourselves. History. When The Man Himself talks about what he has created you want to hang on every word.

"The Ultimate Victory" indeed. In more concrete terms, endurance racing victories, one man stands alone: Hurley Haywood.

Racing. When watching Porsche return to LeMans this year its good to know they once won overall, class and efficiency categories- all in the same year of course.

And while waiting for your car what could be better than watching them build it?

Okay, I know, that was a GT3 not a 991! But you loved it, right? And now here's how they make the 991. Its even more incredible watching this after the last one, and now realize they not only made the 991, they made the factory to make the 991- at the same time!

Well we started with Ferry so maybe we'll end with a couple of the men carrying his mantle today, August Achleitner and Michael Mauer.

As a guy who's watched the 911 develop over 40 years I just love the way Mauer talks about the new 911.

Oh yeah. I was a late bloomer and didn't get really obsessed about the F1 until a few years ago. Purchased an original Driving Ambition edition for over $200 after McLaren sold out of their cheaper re-edition. It definitely gives you insight on what many would consider the greatest road car ever built. Did you happen to be at Cars and Coffee way back in April 2012 when the local owner of #036 drove up in it? Only one I've seen in person.

No I missed that! I was actually very fortunate when I was in high school to get a ride in one of the first "Ameritech" (I think that was the name) imports. I've been obsessed with that car since I first heard about it and every year would only ask for one thing for my birthday, Christmas, etc. Of course my cheapskate mother never got me one, if you don't count the scale models.

I get home to find this gift from Porsche waiting for me today. It is like they knew I was looking for more reading material.

By far the nicest gift I've ever received for buying a car.

Thanks Porsche!

Congrats on your order!

You are going to love your car.

I doubt you would have received a gift book in the mail from Bowling Green if you had ordered another brand of car.

Thanks for the picture of the box, its so nice I thought at first it was another book! There's a lot of great ideas from people here but nothing beats the stuff straight from the factory. Everything else is about Porsche history. That book (like your car) is Porsche history! Enjoy!

If the Porsche World Road Show is in your area, have your dealer sponser you, and attend the event. The combination of PWRS and being a new customer, Porsche NA will comp your maintenance for the warranty period.

Didn't get that book but got a box of "stuff" from PCNA on saturday. Vehicle specific quick reference guide with pics of my car and my options, pen, VIN card, marketing brochure, etc. I'd prefer the book but this may add $300 to it's barrett jackson sale in 30 years.

Enjoyable and educational for the two dollars.
