Targa = Cabrio hump back

I love blondes, brunettes and red heads. Coupes, Cabs and the Targa.
I just can't believe Porsche. They could have saved a ton of money and engineering if they had simply made it a removable roof section like before. WTF. We wouldn't even be talking about this at all. The 991 is big enough to be able to stow that panel in the car without pissing off the back seat passengers that none of us have anyway. My 8 year old has sat back there twice in 4 months.
As for the GT3 steering. I was told by my service tech it's a simple flash for my S and since I'm just an old, tired BMW test driver I probably won't notice the difference in feel anyway. LOL>

Now here's what's wrong with it, or why it had to be 4. Stop and think about the 911's most inherent problem...too much weight in the rear. The 991 Cabriolet when open sends approx. 150lbs more to the rear versus the coupe. The new Targa weighs approx. 300lbs more than that (plus 450lbs). Open the top and you've just amplified the already extra weighty rear end load some more. Thus, the 4 configuration with its 295 size rear tires to carry the extra load. (And don't you think they knew this was coming when they launched the 991 4 coupe originally?) The new Targa looks great though, the best looking Targa yet, just my aesthetic opinion.

From the porsche website:
C2: 3047 lbs
C4: 3153
C2 cab: 3197
C4 cab: 3307
C4 targa:3395
So it's only 90 more than a c4 cab which is probably in the glass rear window and the rolllbar. And I seriously doubt the extra 150 lbs is in the fabric roof that moves rearward....

totally fugly,
What was porsche thinking?
The worst part is that the ragtop part of the targa is over the driver. You don't get extra light or sun into the front of the car (where the driver is) unless the top is down.
Couldn't pay me enough for one of these.
This the targa is the one car that porsche should have finally made with folding hardtop like the competition. BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari, all have folding hardtops, and they all look better with the top up than any the porsche cars.

Where are you getting these numbers, that top would have to be made out of concrete !

Just haven't had much to say (implausible, I know.)
Agreed. If it carries all the same compromises, why not go the full monty?
[QUOTE=Z356;11050175]Adam: Yes, you set your sights way too high![ /QUOTE]
I dunno. Sure, expecting it to be a Carrera coupe chassis is naive, but still, it seems to me, that would have been the whole point: open air, light and stiff.

Any chance you could photoshop this one without the camel beige seat and erase the glass altogether?
I really wish they'd offered it as a "soft top targa" and just a one-piece or two-piece manually removed lid (like the Carrera GT) and a removable (hard glass, like removing a Cabrio hardtop or a Boxster hardtop) rear hatch. And keep the hatch operation like the 997 targa so you can put stuff in the rear cargo area without trying to contort through the passenger doors.
