Mesh to protect a/c condensers
Not sure if this has already been covered, but last summer I had to replace a condenser on my Cayman as these are pretty well exposed to rocks getting kicked into the bumper openings. I installed a set of mesh guards to prevent that from happening again. Have people had similar problems with the 991 (or any of the modern 911 cars)? I noticed that the openings are even larger on my 991 than they were on the 987.

You can also make your own at a minimal cost and install without removing the bumper. Take a look at the DYI section of 6speed. Serge posted instructions including templates for each side. I did it, it worked great and the cost was minimal.

The rennline kit doesn't fit right on my sport design bumper. They ordered some new parts and are looking into making screens that will work, I'm still waiting to hear back on what changes are made and if i'll get replacements. As it is now, you have to cut them up and they only attach halfway.

Did you order the specific kit for the Sport Design bumper? You've got me worried, I bought the specific Sport Design with Parking sensor option kit and thought it was the right answer. Haven't tried to install yet.

I have the sport bumper so I was able to use Serge's template. You may need to create your own if you have the regular bumper. Also, I got the mesh grill from customcargrills. I'm sure there's cheaper options but I think that one really protects the radiators and worth the extra few dollars. Have fun and let us know how it turns out.

I checked the reference on 6-speedonline, but that's for the sport bumper cap. Since I have the regular front end I made my own. I ordered the mesh from customcargrills and made a cardboard template to the rough shape of the opening. However I did not want to remove my front bumper cap so I bent the mesh around a 1" pipe and slid it into the opening. Once it was all the way in, there is plenty of room to slide it to one side and get my hand behind the mesh and straighten out the bend. Then slide it the opposite side and finish bending the mesh straight. Then with a couple of black tie wraps to the vertical supports (on the bottom sides) and one on the outboard end and I was done.
PS, excuse all the bugs, I just got back from a fantastic 3 day drive with 5 other Porsche owners to find my intakes full of bugs, leaves and stones. No time like the present to get this mod done.

I ordered the same mesh but haven't installed it yet. Thanks for your post and the tips (how to get the mesh through the opening and without having to remove anything!!)…this'll make it real easy!!!
