Correct; the Macan shares the Q5 platform, which is based on the A4.

The Tiguan is based on the Golf/A3 platform, which is smaller, and unlike the A4 platform, has a transverse engine.

My understanding is that the MQB platform underpinning the new Golf - and just about every upcoming VW - will not be the foundation of the next A4; that they will continue to be differentiated by size and engine orientation.

It's indeed a common misunderstanding that the Q5 (or Macan) is based on the Tiguan. The Q3 is the Audi that's based on the Tiguan platform. Q5 and Macan are based on the MLB (Modular LenkBaukasten) platform, which is the same as the Audi A4/A5 and was introduced in 2007.

Porsche is going to make A LOT of money selling this into China. Sadly, for them (90%) the brand Porsche = SUV= Cayenne not 911.

Although the premise of this thread is a little strange I'm going to keep an open mind about the Macan. Haven't seen one in person yet - so jury is out until then. I certainly hope it'll be a success for Porsche.

From what my Porsche dealership tells me the Macan is priced right (although it can get pricey fast) and is a drivring pleasure. I'll keep my Cayenne diesel, no matter. It will pull about anything, is luxurious, powerful and looks real nice, and my wife simply loves it, as well as I. However, I balked when she wanted me to trade my new 991 w/manual with her. Love only goes so far.

Really? My dealership said the Macan sucks, costs too much, and is built in Kentucky, and that I would be much better off with a 991TT.

I like the macan pictures. Haven't seen it irl. Don't like it's priced similar to cayenne. Don't want a baby cayenne for grown up cayenne prices !

Macan Turbo is a lot cheaper than Cayenne Turbo. Macan S is a lot cheaper than Cayenne S
Don't compare Macan S with a base Cayenne.

That said... I'll get something else for less money, but the Macan looks OK. A lot better than Cayenne, that's for sure.

The info i found indicates its not going to built in Kentucky.

The Macan will be produced alongside the Panamera and the Cayenne in Leipzig, Germany in a newly extended factory.

Looks like you have an ill-informed dealer. That or they're trying a classic up-sell on you. Perhaps both.

That's exactly what I did. Love my new SQ5 which is really quick and looks great!
