Default Where to Look for Used Wheels/snows

So I just took the plunge and got a 991 Cab this week. I will do limited driving this winter here in Chicago and need to find a set of wheels and snow tires that will fit. I just don't have the space for a third car. The smallest size I can fit are 235/40/19 in the front and 285/35/19 in the back. I went to Tire Rack, my "go to" source for tires, and their basic package with wheels, tires and sensors runs about $2400. I would so much prefer to find a used, slightly nicer looking set. Any ideas on where to look? There don't seem to be a lot of snow tires in this size and doing a search for either those size tires, or wheels that are 8.5 J x 19 ET 54 and 11 J x 19 ET 63 in size is difficult. Many people advertise tire sizes and wheels in different ways so it's hard to put a search string in that will capture what I am looking for.

Anyone know of any particular sites to peruse, or other cars that have the same size wheels? I figure I have a month to find something, which isn't so much time.

Thanks. I have looked at the first three. However for eBay and CL I am having a hard time finding a good search string that will capture what I am looking for. Any suggestions? People advertise wheel and tire sizes in different ways.

I thought you asked this question before. The short answer that you do not want to hear is that you are probably not going to find used winter tires and possibly not used TPMS sensors that work with the 991 properly at this time. The tire sizes are brand new for the 991 and the 991 does not work with wheels smaller than 19. My bet is that those who just recently purchased them are not willing to part with them yet, unless you are really lucky to find a seller who got rid of his 991 and still has the winter tire set that they are wanting to sell. Do expect however to pay more than the $2400 package you found.

Your best bet is the package you found at Tire rack if the tires are the right sizes. A new set of wheels with the correct tires is available from Suncoast for around 4-5K.

Maybe so, although I've read that the tire size is the same as 997.2 models. Thanks for your thoughts.

You could always have the Tire Rack mount snows on your existing rims. They only charge $15 for M&B. they do great work. And won't make a mark on your new wheels.

This might buy you some time over the next 11-12 month to procure a dedicated set of tires and rims.

This assumes they make a decent 20" snow tire. I don't know much about snows.

I have given that a little thought. I do hate to have to have tires mounted twice a year, plus if I buy snows to mount on my wheels, I'd have to lock in 20s. 19s perform better and cost less, and I don't really care so much about looks on a winter tire, although semi-decent looking wheels would be nice...

That's a good idea, thanks. I had thought about calling local dealers and talking to their parts department to see if they had takeoffs or perhaps winter wheels that were tossed into a trade in deal, but perhaps the service manager is the place to start.

I have found a possible set. They are 911 S Classic Lobster wheels that are:

(f) 19H2x8J ET of 57
(r) 19H2x11 ET of 67

Tires:
new SP Winter Sport 3D Tires.
Size : Front: 235/35R19
Size : Rear: 295/30/R19

I am sure the sensors would not work, but I doubt for my limited winter driving that would be worth $500+ to replace. Does anyone know if the wheels and tires fit? Would I need spacers on the rears (or the fronts)? While this might not be ideal, it seems like it could be a pretty good solution if the fit is right. I would have to have these shipped here, so please only say that they will fit if you really KNOW they will fit. :-) Also, if you need any other measurements, let me know and I'll try to find out. And thanks!

I was looking around for winter wheel sets for a while and ended up going with the stock Porsche 991 19" wheels with winter tires - bought at the dealer. They were running a 15% off deal so it wasn't too bad.

Town Motors in Englewood was offering 19 inch wheels with Pirelli winter tires and tire pressure sensors for under $4,000. I had already ordered Michelin Alpin's from Discount Tire, and it was too late to cancel them. So I am having my local tire shop mount the tires on some new BBS 19 inch wheels from Tire Rack. Will cost me a few hundred more, but I will have what I understand to be much better winter rubber in the Michelins.
