Default Garage?

I put my 911's in the garage for the winter but for 8 months of the year it basically sits on my driveway. My garage is smallish and it is a bit tight getting in and out so I can't bother on a daily basis. How many of you leave you car out vs always garaged? Toronto isn't like Miami.....it tends not to fry in the sun. Also,at work I have underground parking so it is rarely left out in the mid-day sun except on week-ends. Some say garages are damp and leaving the car out might actually be better but I'm not sure about fading of the paint. Discuss.

At least use a sunshade and good detailing products and regiment.

I live in an older historic neighborhood and have only a one car garage that is really more like a small barn. I can put my car in it, but usually just park under the attached carport at home. At my work, it's in an exposed lot all day, everyday.
I wash regularly and have waxed three times in its first year, and the Guards Red is still stunning. You might consider adding a carport if your area allows it, it's convenient at the least.

My house was built 36 years before Karl Benz made the first automobile, so no garage.

Outside parking year round. I actually like it, because it removes any threshold of whether to take the car out and expose it to the elements...

I have waxed it a few times and it still looks like new, no fading inside or outside that I can detect.

I bought the Porsche 'space suit' outside cover, but have only used it a few times.

I posted a photo essay on my outdoors:y nature child a while back:

@mtbscott & fbroen:

The moment I saw the thread, the first thing that came to mind was the two of you laughing hard like Bond villains.....

Seriously Rennlisters, these two are the Poster boys for the Porsche everyday ads ...

Just make sure you wax often, and check frequently for bird droppings and tree sap - those will etch into your clear coat if left on too long!

always in the garage overnight.

During the day, sometimes in and sometimes out. Or being driven!

Always in the garage, I don't drive it enough due to a busy work/travel schedule, and our driveway gets pretty crowded. But the 911 is far from being a garage queen... I washed her once since March.

I bought a house with a 4 car garage so I could fill it up with cars so... I filled it up with cars. Can't think of a single reason to ever leave the Porsche outside.

If I had to park my car outside I would use a sealant and not a wax.

I'm reminded of an episode of Cheers. Sam is selling his beloved Corvette. He's interviewing buyers.

Sam: Its sunny, middle of the day, you're looking for a place to park. There's a nice big space but its right in the sun. There's another one but its under a tree. You might get sap. What do you do?

Buyer: I guess I'd park under the tree?

Sam: What?! Are you kidding me? Its a trick question! You don't take your car out in the middle of the day!

Me: You already know what to do. Clean out the garage and park that Porsche where it belongs!

Garage or not some don't have options.

I do like the mantra of fbroen though. Use it.

The one thing that I do feel bad about is for all of you chaps who live so far North that you can't drive your car all year.

I am a native to Los Angeles for whatever that means or is worth and have never lived anywhere else in the country so I don't know anything else. I kicked another car out of my garage to my driveway so that my 991 can live inside at night. Is she spoiled? Yes. Does she know she is? Probably not because it's all my 911 knows. Just like me.

L.A. isn't for everyone and I have more friends that not who would never even consider living in Los Angeles even on the coast where I'm at.

Without seasons, snowfall or pretty leaves, I'll just be happy for what I know and have. Owning a 911 makes us all family and that is what it's all about.

Like the other guys said Bacura, sun is the enemy. Your baby will be fine outside up there north of the border.
