safety for rear passengers and side impact crash question
Did a search and couldn't find anything.
My car is being delivered tonight and, of course, my wife is now questioning the safety of the car especially because we have a 2.5 year old who will be occassionally riding in the back seat ( in a car seat of course).
I guess Porsche doesn't crash test these cars, so there is no safety rating, but does anyone know from experience or examples of how safe the 911 is in all types of collisions especially side impact?
I couldn't sleep a wink last night thinking about how I shoud have done some research on it before purchasing and never ever want to feel like I am putting my little one's life in jeopardy just for the sake of having a convertible sports car.
Too late to do anything now, but I will definitely regret not getting a MB S class or BMW M5 if safety is an issue.
Please help alleviate or reinforce my fears.

Porsche uses Boron steel cages around the passenger compartments like Volvo does. Check the sales aids. They may call it high tensile steel or something like that. Plus you have knee air bags.

I believe Porsche does crash test cars, but the Highway Safety Institute does not crash test sports cars, so no published results. In the most recent Christophorus magazine, Porsche notes that the beautiful new yellow 918 Spyder featured in the photo shoot was heading to its next assignment: crash testing. How hard would THAT be to watch!
It may not provide the comfort you are looking for, but do you think Porsche would send unsafe vehicles out the door? In addition to all the safety features, the technology of the car and the big brakes make you safer too. Sleep well...

One of the reasons I think our car insurance is so affordable.....very safe cars.

My 2.5 year old is in my car all the time. Seeing some actual crash/impact info would be nice. I have no doubt that they are safe cars, but seeing the numbers and actual info would be nice.

I'm pretty sure the 991 is built better than either of these cars.

Check out some 911 nurburgring crashes on YouTube. Seeing drivers walk away after high speed impacts says something about its safety.
