Default Winter Storage

First P-Car and first car that I'm not driving year around. For winter storage it will be in my garage (not heated), but instead of having a battery charger any reason I cannot just start the car 2x per month and let it idle for 30-60 minutes?

Use the battery maintainer. Stabilize the fuel with StaBil. Over inflate tires to about 58 PSI. Make sure stored with fresh oil and all maintenance up to date. Don't start it till spring.

Cold starts -- when the cold thick oil is collected at the bottom -- are brutal on your un-oiled engine internals. Get a trickle charger and don't touch the car until spring. Also look up procedures to follow for getting the car in/out of storage. For example, in spring, it's good to push the car a few feet forward while in gear to loosen up potentially seized internals and to lubricate the parts before starting the engine.

I would say use Seafoam instead of Stabil. I've had much better results with it.

It really does depend on where you are though.

All - Thanks for the advice. Battery Maintainer , StaBil and tire pressures. Car cover already purchased.

LonnieR - My parents live in Sarasota and my dad already offered to "take care" of the car for the Winter months. He came up when I took delivery of it in March. 32 years ago he bought a Mercedes 300D (Glow Plugs, anyone?) and I was forever hooked on cars

Inform your insurance company. Save some coin during hibernation.

Make sure that you don't fall below your state's liability insurance minimum to maintain the car's registration status.

Not sure I understand. The car will be in storage. Off the road for many months. Why would there be liability issues. You are basically dropping coverage for the most expensive coverages and just keeping coverage for theft, fire and such.
