2S versus 4S
Hi,
I'm having trouble deciding between the 2S and the 4S 991. I have read the various threads, but I'm wondering which one has less understeer. I will not be getting pdcc. I have owned a number of 2 wheel drive 911s in the past, and I was going to do the same again. However, Evo and some other magazines prefer the 4S, but it could be because pdcc makes the car feel more numb on the 2S.
Motortrend drivers car of the year tests (2012 versus 2013) seem to show that the 2s understeers MORE, which is surprising. But Motortrend conjectures that the 2s understeered so much because of pdcc.
I would test drive them and decide, but you cannot push a car on a test drive, and it is hard enough to find a 4s coup on the lot in CA. Weather is not a issue.

What do you intend to do with the car? Autocross? DE? Weekend toy?
Oversteer and understeer has a lot to do with driving skill and how hard you are going to push it.
I love the C4S's slightly wider hips, rear light bar and lower rocker panels.
I ordered a C2S cab because I'll never drive in the rain and the cars are stored for the winter.

991s of any configuration do not understeer the way prior 911s did- not at all. Anyone having such a problem needs to get the right balance of air pressures front to rear. Moreover they are all excellent in the wet.
The C4S, when pushed hard, vectors torque to the front wheels. That, the wider rear track and the wider rear wheels with larger tires (305 vs 295) than the C2S adds to cornering security. The C4S weighs more than the C2S. Sport PASM or PDCC would have their own effects. Randy Pobst declared each of them the best driving cars back to back last year and this. He loved them each while blasting around Laguna Seca. (Google: "pobst+991 + laguna seca" and you should find the vids). I have never seen a direct comparison test of otherwise equal cars/drivers/conditions so cannot point you to data or comparative comments.

both awesome
There are some other small differences.
CS2
+ easier to be a hooligan (over steer, drift, steep the rearout)
+ slightly better fuel econ
+ slightly cheaper
+ slightly more trunk space
+ slightly higher top end
CS4
+ planted and safe, very hard to get out of line
+ looks a little cooler with wider rear and light bar on rear
+ bigger gas tank
+ slightly better weight balance and steering due to extra driveshaft
+ better takeoff grip

ok so Ive drive both 2 and 4s on the track back to back.
short answer is that up about 8/10 you cant tell any difference, after that the 4 does understeer more.
its really amazing on 2 points: 1. the 2 is extremely planted and 2. the 4 does not feel like an AWD car
i like the 911-50 otherwise, man up and get the 2

Personally, if it were my purchase, I'd buy the C4S... but that is because I believe that more grip is better for mountain twisty driving, always.
But, if you're torn, there is a solution. Look to Colin Chapman's words, "Simplify, then add lightness."
Which of the two is most simple? Which of the two is lighter?
Buy the one that is the answer to the above and you can NOT go wrong.
