Which P car would you buy for 60k
I wanted to buy a second P car, a long lost child, but looking at the prices I began to wonder if the price of used P models were really lined up with their desirability. I wanted to look at the 1995 year to present, please do not take this as an offense if you own an earlier model.
Here is the question, which car would you buy if you had just won a Porsche Gift Certificate for 60k, you can keep the difference if you buy a car for less than 60k, and for the 991’s you can pay-up the difference: (I looked for real offer on the market and links are included)
Here are your choices:
1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Coupe 60k miles USD 53k
2003 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe 16k Miles USD 60k
2004 Porsche 911 GT3 Coupe 44k miles USD 57k
2008 Porsche 911 Carrera S 24k miles USD 59k
2008 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Coupe 37k Miles USD 57k
2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S 39k Miles USD 59k
2012 Porsche 911 Carrera 13k Miles USD 76.9k
2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe 5k Miles USD 86k

Of all those, if you want to get your $60K back in several years, and you take good care of her, the only one that can yeild that would be the 993.
I would never want a 996. Hate the headlights.

Loved my 993 but they're starting to look dated to me these days. Didn't love my 997 and I would take a 981 over everything on that list with the exception of the 991.

Drop your range a couple years to 1993 and you'll be able to get an outstanding RS America, at or very close to $60k. Sticking with your list it would have to be the 96 C4S (although a C2S is more my taste its not on your list). An RSA may not be quite as modern as a 993 but it carries oodles more cache and will hold, or maybe even increase, in value more than any other on the list.

The first three on the list have the best, more reliable motors of the entire group. For the fun factor, I'd go with either of the two 996's. For least depreciation I'd go with the 993.
Chuck is right about the RSA though. I'd take that over any on that list.

I would go with a higher mileage 993tt. The prices are up at the moment but when winter sets in I think you will find one. This will have real appreciation potential as well as being one of the great
Porsche driving experiences.

Hi:
I guess it depends if you care about resale value and your propensity for preventive maintenance costs.
For me, I would choose in order:
993 S (not listed, 98' if possible)
964 RSA, 94' with rear seats (not listed)
993 TT (first in my heart, but a bit heavy on my wallet in maintenance)
993 4S (I prefer the livelier driving of the 2S, lower maintenance)
911 Turbo 89' (phenomenal looks, buy for $50K and keep the $10K handy, it will be used !!)
I do like your call on the GT3. Nice raw car.
$60K will yield a great 2nd car. If you are looking at protecting your equity/future appreciation, then you need to be selective. Air cooled cars (in general) have slowed/stopped on the depreciation curve.
If you don't care about depreciation and want a lot of creature comforts/handling/sound engine/tranny now, then a late model 997.
Just my 02$. I did the same with about half your $$, and came away with a 89 911. Better than money in the bank.
