Default Oil temp

Anyone know how long (time or distance) it tyically takes for the car to get to proper temp?
It seems to me that mine takes an inordinate period of time. Half the time I drive it in regular mode and sport mode.
Thanks

Do you have power kit? It comes with 3 radiators which keep the car cold most of the time and even longer time to heat up.

One of the whole ideas behind the new 991 is it's thermal management system. Car gets up to temp fast. Both the engine and gearbox. This helps with fuel economy.

at a 60f ambient temperature i can take around 6 miles to reach 194F but the coolant is at 194f in 2 miles. It is my understanding that the oil temp sensor is a leftover from the days when the cars were air cooled. that said, i do not use wot until the oil is full warmed up, however, it probably ok when coolant is hot.

i never use sport until the car is warmed up as it seems to have a special circuit to cool the oil

drive it in Normal mode until operating temps are reach. Then Sport is fine.
You'll notice the engine runs about 20-25F cooler in Sport.

I have Powerkit and it takes about 6 miles to get oil temp over 165'F. My dealer service people advise never use WOT below that level. Water temp gets to 180'F in about 2 miles. The manual indicates (I think) never go over 6200 until fully warmed up and oil being up to temperature is an important part of that equation.

Wanted to bring up this older thread again, and get more discussion going, and feedback from other owners.

IT TAKES FOR-EVER for the oil to heat up in this car. Note, I have the powerkit, too. Now that I am done with the break-in period, I'm watching the oil temp like a hawk, so I can start partytime ASAP. Coolant heats up fast.

I can see the effect of "normal" mode vs "sport plus" mode on the highway cruising. I was surprised to see how much cooler the oil runs in sport plus mode.

So, in the early, cool, mornings, on first drive out, should I run the car in normal mode to heat the oil up the fastest? Thanks.

As I understand it, initial warm up time is the same no what mode you are in: the thermal management system routes water and oil through their radiators/coolers to optimize warm up time to normal operating temperatures. It takes a couple of miles (more if its colder) to get to operating temps. After that pushing buttons affects the fluid routing, so you see the effects, and when temps get high enough the thermal management system (sensors and change over valves) does as it is mapped to do again.

Under no circumstances should you to into Sport or Sport + until oil temperature at 165' F. This is according to the techies at my dealership. This can take 6-7 miles. Water temp ok at about 2 miles but oil is more important.

Why? As long as you/I keep the revs below 4,000.

My oil takes forever to warm up to 165. The only time it warms up faster is when the pdk lugs the motor on long uphill grades and who wants that.

It's right next to the part about changing the Bose-Einstein dielectric in the flux capacitor every 6 months or 20 parsecs, whichever comes first.
