Default Power Steering Plus

Getting ready to order my new 2014 991 - Cab; I will be getting a manual because I like being connected to the road and find that is the fun of driving this car (and it is a second car for me and my third Porsche in 10 years).

Anyone have any experience with and without Power Steering Plus? I would prefer not to have it, but i'm told steering can be a little hard when Parking. any thoughts?

I would suggest lifting some weights if the steering is too heavy, and skip the power steering plus, especially since you said you want to feel more connected to the road. If you want to be able to twirl the wheel with one finger when parking or moving slowly, then get the power steering plus. I do not like the feel even at slow speeds. I don't want my 911 to feel like a Buick or Lexus at any speed.

I thought it was silly, too. But after driving several cars back to back (with and without) I came to appreciate exactly what it was designed for, maneuvering in parking lots. It has absolutely zero affect in changing any feeling on the road. Is it necessary? No. But for what it costs I liked it and ordered it on my Nov. build.

With no PSP, I have zero problems parking, and I'm sixty! Would NOT want it lightened at all.

i like mine. This subject has come up several times since the early adopters of the 991 came to these boards. Mostly its fiercely divisive "it sucks and you suck if you like it" or vice-versa. I got tired of arguing about it a long time ago. Drive both and see how you feel.

Mine came with it and it feels just fine to me -- and I have wrestled plenty of non-power-steering 911s over the years -- 87 911 Turbo, several 911SCs and 3.2 Carreras. It steers like what it is -- a Porsche.

I can't imagine you will have any problems parking without the additional assist. Like others have said, if you can drive both, give it a test. I don't think you will miss it, but I also seriously doubt it would detract from the feeling of being connected to the road!

I keep three cars in my garage and need to park with surgical precision. That said, PSP is just what the doctor ordered. I can park with millimeter accuracy. Without it I'd be "s" out of luck. You can take it from there.

Have not driven a 911 with PSP but it's on my 981S. Very nice feel at low speeds, no noticeable degradation at higher speeds. Would order it again.

Steering isn't heavy at all...in fact it's much lighter than my e92 BMW 335i...ps+ has artificial transition feeling at least for me so I decided against it.

I would find it interesting to see the results of a blind test of transition points to see how many of the reported results were on point.

I don't have it and can't say i miss it. It has no effect a speed so can't affect anything importantly negatively.

Sort of related- If I were ordering a 991 to spec I would get parking sensors and if available, a back up camera. I don't know if it is the design, my fear of marring the rear bumper cap or front spoiler, or old age but I find the 991 to be the most cautious to park car I have ever owned!

Between those wheels, those lights and that sport design kit, I am not sure that car was meant to be parked at all, ever, anywhere it could not be walked around and drooled on.
