Default What Porsche to buy?

I am a former (2013) Boxster and Carrera Cab (2006) owner, both as a "weekend car". I'm going to order a 2014 Cabriolet and want some advice. I don't want 20" Wheels... Ride is too hard for me. So, I'm relegated to the base model. Questions:

I'm undecided between white, black top with beige full leather interior or black, black with black full leather interior?

Also, wondering what options are the "must have"s and why?

Thanks for any opinions you can provide.

Joel, welcome to rennlist.

Somewhere, hidden in the forum directory to your left is the correct place to ask this question. Here, our cars are old....really old.

Let me see what I can do to find you the 991 forum.

I wouldn't rule out S based on 20" wheels and ride, I think it's amazing compared to 997.

As for colour BLACK

when I had my 96 I purchased it with 19" wheels and it rode very hard. Very little sidewall, so I actually downgraded to 18" which was available in those days. I haven't driven the 20"'s but I'm told and I have read that they do ride my harder. I'm in the Phila area and the streets can be a bad at times.

Don't know where you live but black seats/top down get a might bit warm, cooling seats might help.

Testdrive a 991 with 20" and PASM (standard on the S-models). It's no comparison to a 997 on 19s. The Boxster on 20s can be a bit harsh (I've got that combo) but still the PASM in my Boxster makes it reasonably comfortable on bad roads. The 991 however, is more comfortable.

Just try some different setups and different cars. Testdrive as much as you can. You'll probably get a lot of different opinions here and in the end are you the one that has to decide. You better decide it on your own experiences, than on other people's opinions

I was also very leary of the 20" wheels. In fact, I was test driving Caymans until I drove a Carerra S. The car was so refined and comfortable I was amazed. Push a few buttons and you can change the personality completely. Win-win. And it looks nice with the big wheels, too, IMO.

interesting about the 20" Wheels. Has anyone been disappointed with the ride of the 20's?

The 20's are great from my perspective. They are much smoother than the feel of the 19's on my previous 997. And they do look good.

Either my sensations have changed owning several cars over the past few years with 20" wheels, but they don't seem harsh to me at all. My Cayenne Turbo has 21's, and it is very smooth. Granted it is a totally different chassis, but Porsche does a great job with their suspension and large diameter wheels.

Very happy with mine, sure it isn't a Merc S class, the ride is firm and true, but it isn't harsh at all.

I'd actually say the S model with PASM on 20's is probably smoother/quieter/softer than my M3 on 19" wheels.

Its not the inside diameter size of the tire that causes the firm ride, it's the aspect ratio. A 20 inch 50 series tire would be just as smooth as a 16 inch 50 series tire, although the outside diameter would be much greater.
