Driving down the highway this afternoon in my 6 month old C4S when I noticed the engine starting to sputter. Almost immediately a warning message about "reduced power" flashes on and I dove off the highway onto an exit ramp (lucky? coincidence) where the car promptly died. I thought I ran out of gas but the tank read about one quarter full. Had it towed to a dealer where they told me there was a message about a fuel pump malfunction. It's now on order.
I did a google search and found some threads about previous 911s running out of gas as the gauge was 'stuck' or just reading in error that it was at 1/4. I'm wondering if this is the same issue and the pump malfunction was just because it wasn't getting any fuel.

Unfortunately you are not the first to experience this.
The 991 C4(S) is known to have an issue with fuel level readings due to the shape of it's fuel tank (needing to accommodate the front wheel powertrain).
In spite of the fact that it reads 1/4 full, is it in fact close to empty.
Apparently they are working on a fix to provide a more accurate reading, so in the meantime keep your fuel level above 1/4 tank.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, OP. Did you happen to notice if your pump was louder at any time before troubles. Mine seems to "sing" (hum) a bit louder at times. I have only noticed it a few times, and I think only when tank has been quarter:ish.

I have driven it below 1/4 tank many times with no problems in the past. Thinking back it was probably at 1/8 when I parked it; yesterday when I drove it again, it registered slightly above 1/4 and I didn't pay attention to it. I haven't noticed any extra noises from the fuel system at different fuel levels.

Follow up: dealer called back after I asked them to check into the possibility of a faulty fuel level indication. Turns out that is the case; they said the instruments needed some sort of an update (which others have indicated does not work).
