Default My first post

Hi everyone I have recently purchased my first Porsche. I am now the proud owner of a 2012 991 Carrera S Cabriolet in Basalt /Luxor. It has PASM, PSE, Sport Chrono, Bose , Nav, PDK and a few comfort options.

I actually had a Cayman on order for a few months but ended up changing my mind and going to a used 911. I really like the Cayman but felt it was under powered. Plus I have always wanted a 911.

This is a nice site with lots of good info and I look forward to participating. I do have one question. A lot of people use initials to refer to cars and I am not clear on what they mean. I see C4S a bit and can guess what the 4S stand for but not the C. It could be coupe, cab or or convt. I imagine with all the cars over the years there are a lot of abbreviations. It would be nice if there was a list of what is what for us newbies.

My first response to post of yours.

C = "Carrera", on this forum

C = "Cayenne", on the Cayenne forum

C = "Cayman", on the Cayman forum, and

C = not really trying in school

congrats...your car sounds like a beauty.
as for c4s, i could be wrong, but i think the "c" is for "carrera"(and not coupe or convertible) as the 2004 C4S came in both coupe and convertible and both were called the same - C4S.
not sure why/when, but i think porsche later dropped the "c" on the 2005+ 997 and they became just "4S" and no longer "C4S."

Welcome to the 911 and the forum!

Here are some links you may find interesting and will help you follow conversations:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_911

http://www.porscheownersmanuals.com/...nual/ext/home/

http://www.porscheengineering.com/pe...tomermagazine/

A few points to get you into the swing of things:
-You have to post pics of your new car, or it didn't really happen. You can search for a post that gives instructions on how to do this.
-If your car doesn't already have them, get the clear side-markers.
-Before posting questions, it helps to do a search...many new owner questions have already been asked and answered. That said, if you can't find what you are looking for don't be afraid to ask!
-Don't be offended if someone suggests you "Read the Manual"
-Have fun and enjoy your new car, and the forum...lots of great information, helpful people, and colorful characters!

Good luck with the new ride..assuming it really happened

Thanks for the answers. I will post pics but I am waiting for the clear side markers from Suncoast before I take the pics(I have been lurking). The RTFM emoticon cracks me up.

Here is one cell phone pic from the dealer the day I picked it up. Once I do all the detailing and the get the clear side markers I will take a bunch of much nicer ones

Here are some more photos after replacing the side lights and adding two coats of glaze and wax.

Next up replacing the chrome interior parts with carbon.
