Default Anyone move up from a 981 Boxster S to a 991 911S?

Anyone move up from a 981 Boxster S to a 991 911S? I have the 981S which I really enjoy except that I do feel a little crampt. I have had the car now 4 months and I wish now that I had a little more room in it. The only option I have is to change over to the 991S.

When I bought the 981 I was really torn between the two cars. I liked them both. But the price of the 981 won me over. Now I am thinking I should have gone ahead and gotten the 991.

To my luck my local dealer has a car they ordered and it's identical to my Boxster S except it's a 911. Now this has me considering the swap out.

Just wanting to hear from anyone that swapped up and their thoughts.

"Moving up" from a 981 to 991 is a matter of opinion. I too originally ordered a 981 boxster S but for reasons of space, decided to order the 991-50. At least I have a reserved slot for now. This past weekend I went to PWRS in Monticello Ny and had the opportunity to drive the cayman S. believe it or not, my 6'4" frame fit comfortably inside the cayman S. see my posts on Planet 9 in the 981 section. Now I'm considering ordering the cayman instead of the 991 no have driven the bolsters and the 991s and the boxster IMO were more fun. Same for the cayman. The 991 is more of a GT and the caymanS was more fun on the track. Both are more than capable cars though. It just depends on what you're looking for. Price wasn't an issue for me. I just wanted a sporty driving experience. I didn't care for the gt3 rear wing so didn't go that route. I was surprised that the cayman had more room inside. The seats were the same as those in the boxster. Give the cayman a try and let us know what you think.

981 Cayman won't be more roomy than the 981 Boxster where the passengers are ..

I am moving up from a 981 Boxster S to a 991 Carrera 4S, although it's not really moving up to be honest, I already had ordered the 911 and postponed the delivery to march 2014. Then I bought the Boxster as an interim car, but I like it so much that I'm going to keep both. With a MT Boxster and a PDK 911 I think I have the best of both worlds. The 911 will be my daily driver and it's just a different car. The Boxster is all about having fun, where the 911 is much more mature. This doesn't mean that you can't have fun with the 911 of course, but it's a car that's more suitable for daily driving. The 911 feels a lot more spacious inside, is more cofortable when you want and is the perfect blend between a GT and a sportscar, where the Boxster is a true roadster.
As a fun-car I prefer the Boxster, as a daily driver I prefer the 911.

It feels a bit more roomy because of the backwindow, where the boxster has just a little window, the Cayman has a hatch and a shelf and a bigger window.

To assess "roominess" differences, be sure sure you are sitting in equivalent seats.

Scuba, i did see your post a few days ago on P9. I found it interesting. For me I want a converable and the boxster is the 981 rag top. The only other choice is a 911 cab. My 981 has the 14way seat so do most 991s.

If you can swing the cost of changing so quickly then I see no reason not to. You want a little more comfort and space but still want to have a good time? 991 is your ticket. I was in a toss up between cayman s and 991 3.4 and landed on the 991 because of the extra space as well as the incredible lease specials on 991 3.4's.

Not exactly on topic, but I have just emigrated from a 2006 Boxster S to a 2013 4S. (I say emigrated since I am still driving the boxster - and why I can comment on this post).

I have had the 4S for 3 weeks now. When I go back to the Boxster, aside from it being like I am putting on my favorite pair of old slippers - its just tiny compared to the "huge" 4S. For instance, on the coxster, my elbows rub to the door and I can touch the sport chrono clock without reaching. Feel like I am right on the road. 4S is sedan like in its comparable size. Of course, the 'only' reason I got the 4S is because we have toddlers and I convinced 'er indoors that I needed the 991 for the rear seats......

Spot on. I wanted a targa, got tired of waiting for even a release date to dribble out of PAG and, since I had sold my last 993 the year before (and not wanting to miss another driving season), I ordered a 981BS as something to drive until I could order a 991 Targa (if I like it as much as I hope I do). Wow! What a car. It's unbelievably fun to drive, but can be quite comfy and luxurious with the top up cruising on the freeway. Sure, it's louder than a coupe, but not horribly so with the top up and the top down with the MT is just a hoot. I have 48 miles to go to reach the "magic" 2000 and can't quite imagine what 7000 RPM will feel like. Really looking forward to first DE next month! As I have said elsewhere, anyone who seriously denigrates the 981s either hasn't driven one or doesn't know what they're talking about. After our P2O weekend, my wife (who instituted the one Porsche at a time rule in 1996) said, "you should keep this and get a 991 with the PDK. I like riding around with the top down in this."
Indeed. Splendid thought.

She deserves a bouquet of flowers, that's an excellent thought!

The Boxster really is everybody's friend. I notice that everytime I take her out for a drive. nothing but positive reactions from all sorts of people, young, old, male, female, doesn't matter.... They all love that car.
In terms of driving, it's right up with the 991 and even better when it comes to having fun. Like you say, it's even pretty comfortable, but as a daily driver I prefer the 991. Not only because it's a bit more comfortable, but also because of the bigger cabin and practicallity.
Being lucky enough to have both, really gives you the best of both worlds.

Funny, over here it's the other way around. I was constantly being shouted at with the boxster, or people shaking their fists in anger at me, or ... the list was endless ...

No such thing in the 991 at the moment, knock on wood.

Whenever I see a boxster I can't help thinking of Elle Woods...

Own 991, just sold 09 Cayman S. the 991 is a better daily driver than my Cayman S. Bigger, better visibility, faster, more compliant ride, better handling, more grip around sweepers, nicer interior bits, etc. I would also argue that the 991 is more fun to drive and with a sunroof I enjoy the experience more than the Cayman S. as people have said, it all comes down to personal preference. I could imagine the Boxster S being better than the Carrera Cabrio because the open top in a tighter cabin is more suitable for spirited driving.

Quick Reply: Anyone move up from a 981 Boxster S to a 991 911S?
