Default Early 2014 991

I finalized my order for a 991S in the middle of May.

I stopped in my dealer today, and found out that the car was completed on June 12, and is a 2014 model. Amazed that they start building the new model year so early. I figure this must be one of the first 2014s built.

Now, she will just have to sit in Zuffenhausen and await my September 18 arrival.......!

The wait will seem endless. May this be your worst problem this year.

Kes7U,

Your dates don't jibe with mine: My order was finalized on June 12 and will begin being built on July 12 & completed July 26 and is expected at my dealer Sept. 13. Your car was finished on the day we finalized our order and yet our ETA is 5 days sooner than yours. Are you sure your car was competed on June 12th? Or is that the day your order was fixed and into the system. This is mine:
V200 Delivery date determined 06/12/2013
V250 Vehicle fixed 07/12/2013 07/12/2013

I think it's build. But KES7U is not picking it up at the factory until September. Correct?

Jim, why don't you just ask your salesman to give you the build info like the one I posted? It will give you all the proposed dates and the completed dates.

How does Porsche come up with their model year dates these days?
You could conceivably have a June '12 build car that was a MY2012 and a year later they're building MY2014's?
My Carrera isn't that worst case but it's close - what's annoying is the dealer even wrote my order up as a 2013 at the time!

SanibelSpeed,

Jim is correct. My car was completed on June 12. I'm sure it would have arrived to my dealer much sooner, but I am taking European Delivery on September 18 at Zuffenhausen.

I got my order in very early, because my September European Delivery date was fixed. (Only time I could get 2 vacation weeks in a row) I wanted to be sure that I would have a car to pick up! I suppose it worked best for my dealer to give me the allocation they did, and the car was built much sooner than I had anticipated. I can't believe my car is sitting in Zuffenhausen just waiting for me, and I don't even get a picture!

2.5 months and counting!!

Kevin

Ah. European delivery! I didn't pick that up. My bad. So, we both sit and wait.....and get too involved in these Porsche forums (fora?) to while away the time.

SanibelSpeed (35 on SanCap Road) Not sure I'm the "Jim," but if so, I received mine in Feb.

I ordered my car in March, I specifically requested a MY2014 build and got notified that it was completed on the 4th of June...

Got on a ship on the 27th and I should have it here by the end of this month.

@KES7U you're fortunate that your dealer didn't push through a late 2013 model - I reckon you scored.

I agree.
A car built in June 2013 is now considered a 2014? Seriously? That's still the first half of 2013!!

The idiocy in this approach from car manufacturers is that they're simply prematurely devaluing their 2013 inventory.

If the build date on the door panel is going to state 6/2013, then the 2014 conversation could be an interesting one.

I guess that's why we now hear terms such as "early 201x build" to account for the significant calendar discrepancy.

C'est la vie..

I collected my car on Monday. Looks like it was built and waiting to get onto a ship longer than it actually travelled on the ship!
