I know there are lots of Oil threads and it's been discussed to death with no right or wrong answer. However what I wanted to know is if it is a fact that the factory-fill oil is exactly the same as the retail Mobil 1 0W40?

The reason I ask is my service manager tells me that the factory fill is special and that taking it out early is NOT good for the car - ie the special oil should be left in for 20,000miles (UK service interval is double the US for no apparent reason!)

My service adviser said it was not different. Just oil, no special "new engine" additives.

I was just kidding. Too much coffee this morning. It's a legitimate question.

Just spoke to head of service at my dealer...
he said the cars come with the Mobil 0W40 from the factory. He made a good point - they would not deliver with a "break-in" oil and then not recommend an early service to change it out, and wouldn't want people topping up with the 0W40 when the "break-in" oil was still in the vehicle.
