991s first track event
I'm signed up for my first track event in my 991s at Atlanta Motorsports Park on 5-24-13: (www.atlantamotorsportspark.com ). I can't wait to see how the 991s performs on the track. My last track event was at Road Atlanta in my e60 M5 w/smg.

I agree that Sports Plus is the way to go on the track. But there is a separate button for controlling the deployment of the rear wing in our cars (doesn't require sports plus to be on).

Cants say as I feel it, but I don't like it going up and down. And there are corners slower than 75 at most tracks, so it won't stay up no matter how much fun I'm having.
But I'm sure it makes some difference and I would not want it to go down going into a turn when I could use all the downforce I can get.

I don't know the specifics of when the 991 spoiler raises and lowers, but on the 997.2 it automatically extends (pun intended) at 75 MPH and lowers at 35 MPH.

I've found that going over the crest before 8, usually at over 160mph, the car feels a little bit more stable with the spoiler up. I haven't noticed a difference at highway speeds.

To put it another way, if you double your speed, say, from 60mph to 120mph, the amount of aerodynamic downforce the rear wing is making is now four times greater. So if the wing is making say 25 pounds/sq. in at 60mph, it will be making 100 pounds/sq.in at 120mph. Conversely, it will only be making 6.25 pounds/sq.in if you drop your speed to 30mph.
You can take a look at this chart and draw your own conclusions about why Porsche only has the spoiler deploy at speeds over 75mph.

Have fun, I'm a member there and actually got to drive another members 991s with aerokit. I'm a big fan of a manual and this was my 1st time driving the new pdk. I have to admit I was really impressed and I was only 1.5 second off my fastest lap in my RS. My buddies car was stock everything and I only did 3 laps

My guess about the spoiler is that you are going to have so much to think about, and so much fun, that it won't matter. It has little effect at all below about 80, (faster than most corners you will encounter) and since it deploys when needed you won't know in any case! Does it make a difference at higher speeds? Yup.
