Default Details on my new 991 + tint recommendation?

I'm a younger guy getting into a custom ordered base 991 black on black. It's supposed to arrive early July so I'm just playing the waiting game right now. It's been a dream of mine to get into one (even since the Need For Speed computer games I used to play as a kid)

Here are the specs:

Premium Package
ParkAssist (Front and rear)
PDK
Sport Tailpipes
Power Sports Seats (14 way)
20-inch classics
multi-function steering wheel

MSRP: $97,555

As you can see, I tried to stay conservative in the options. This is my first porsche so I don't want to go overboard just yet. I'm getting a 27 month lease on it. When I'm done with this, I plan to get a white on red S with all the bells and whistles (sport chrono, sport exhaust, glass sunroof, etc). I didn't get the sunroof on this car because honestly, I'll never use it. Plus it's just dead weight on the roof. (It does look super cool from the back when it's open though)

The order isn't locked into place yet so I can change some of the options if I wanted to. I like the sport tailpipes and the 20 inch wheels- options standard on the S. I'm shooting for a "classy" look on this car. I also just kept the porsche tire emblems as mono chromatic.

As I wait, I've thought about what I want to change about the car: I'm removing the "Carrera" logo and just leaving it as 911. I'm going to keep the P O R S C H E logo above it. I'm also planning to get the clear light deflectors to replace the stock yellow colored ones on the sides.

Do you guys think tints on this black on black is a good idea? If so, what level? Please feel free to post pics of your recommendations! I live in socal so if you know any good tint places, let me know!

I'm really happy I found this forum. Looking forward to being a part of this community.

Jon

I would also seriously consider the "sport" steering wheel as well...this is not a lexus, so no need (IMHO) for all those busy looking sedate buttons....you will love the paddles with the PDK....

I agree PSE makes a HUGE difference but I'm going to save that for the S. Will it change the sound dramatically on the base?

I saw the ongoing debate on here about this. I'm going to be driving this car daily and the multifunction capabilities will be useful. Also, I personally like the push/pull system (even though race cars are not like that).

Any tint recommendations? I want it dark enough to be sporty but not dark enough to be a cop-attention-grabber or blinding at night. Also, do you recommend the same tints all around?

Thanks!

yes...I would def get the same shade all around...two tones look cheesy (to me) personally, I would also likely just get the darkest "legal" tint....the car already draws cop attention...don't give them more incentive

Ha! Yeah. To top that off, I'm not planning to put my license plates up at all. I like the dealer plates way too much.

Wait...are you saying you are not going to have plates mounted front or back? That is suicide. What are the dealer plates? Like temp paper tags?

Regarding the tints, I have always gone with 35% in the past and have never, knock on wood, received a tint ticket. Just received my 991 base april 1st and have yet to find the right tint shop as the guy who did my BMW was less than impressive. When I do it will be 35% all around. Legal tints are useless here in ny.

What is meant by useless? No protection? I live in S Florida, and use legal... Wonder if Florida laws are different. Besides, it's a Porsche... Tint should simply accentuate the car, not " limo black it out"

Agree that no plates is incorrect

Useless: Not fulfilling or not expected to achieve the intended purpose or desired outcome.

Synonyms: vain - futile - worthless - unavailing - good-for-nothing

Haha just messing with ya. NY laws state you must transmit 70% of light front and back side windows. Fl requires 28% font and 15% back.

Thus my 35% tints are totally legal in florida, where people realize that skin cancer is real and undesirable.

I won't have plates mounted in the front but I will in the back. I'll just have the dealer plates that come with the car when you first purchase/lease it. I haven't had a problem with that here in SoCal.

As for tints, I may be wrong but I believe ANY tinting in SoCal is illegal...Florida is lucky.

Anyone here have 35% on a black 991?

According to this CA has the same laws as NY 70%. Basically no tint at all.

This is a post in the 99y forum of a 35% tint on a black 997. Gives some reference for you.

Agree with 35%; that is what I did to my White with Red interior C2S Coupe, and it's perfect. Not too dark while still providing attenuation of the sun and heat. Also in SoCal, and of course "illegal" on the doors' glass, but its just a fixit ticket (if hasseled) and then a matter of putting the tint back on after it's been proven to the PoPo that you removed it.

Here's mine with 30% tint (same as comes on Cayenne)

I also put a clear ceramic film on the inside of the windshield, which blocks all UVA and UVB...does an amazing job of keeping car cooler inside.
