The Pirelli's are fine, certainly for normal use. Porsche would hardly let the vehicles out of the factory with unserviceable rubber! That said, I do agree the Michelin's are a better tire, and I'll certainly be installing them once the Pirelli's are worn. I guess the bright side is that the Pirelli's haven't lasted long for me in the past, so it won't be too long!

+1.
The Pirelli's are great on the street and no slouch on the track. I noticed that they heat cycled out before they lost all their tread on the track, but Pirelli vs Michelin is more of a good versus better discussion than bad versus good.

The OEM Pzero is a good/great tire. Some of the negative experiences tend to be about the PZERO Nero which is easily mistaken for the current tire on the 991S. I'm taking mine to the track prior to mounting my 19s w/ A6 slicks. Curious to see how the OEM's will do before I switch out to Hoosiers.

Car and Driver has the Pirelli at the bottom of the pack, but still notes that it is a great tire. We have just experienced such an uptick in tire performance in the last 2 years. I guarantee the P-Zero stomps the old Michelin PS2, which was a bellweather for so long, and up to 2011 even.
The Goodyear is on that list as well (which I have as I've got 19" wheels). I am pretty impressed with it, ESPECIALLY after I reduced the wheel air pressure to Comfort level.

Because their contract with Pirelli WAS cheaper for them... Retail values have no place in the conversation of what Porsche cars pays for anything. Obviously the tire had to function up to the standard that Porshe set as well.
