Default R compound tires for 991S

Can anyone recommend a 20" R compound track tire for the 991S?

Limited so far with Pirelli Corsa being the only choice on Tire Rack.

Until some other vendors step up to this all new 991 sizing, the Corsa is the best option at this time.

I was hoping they'd release the Dunlop Sport Maxx Race in the 991S sizes, since it will be on the GT3. Damon, any idea if 305's will fit on the rear of the 991S? (Non-4 S)

Damon, what is the outlook for the availability of Michelins PSS in the appropriate size for the 991 4S?

Trofeo's are only available in the 305 size (not 295), and I'm not sure if those will fit the S?

Yes it works just fine. And this is the size for 4S as well

245/35 Diameter Variance: 0%
295/30 Diameter Variance: 0.81%
305/30 Diameter Variance: 1.69%

As long as under 3% all should be Savy

Zook, this is good info on the Trofeo's. I need to replace the stock tires, and was going to go with the Michelin PSS but there is currently an availability problem. The 305/30 Trofeo's fit fine on the stock 991S 20" wheel? Just double checking that no spacer's, rolling, etc. is required.

Also, do you have any sense of the sticky vs longevity as compared to the Corsa, stock or the MPSS?

I would love it if I could use 305/30 instead of the 295/30, as that opens a couple options up. I'd love to hear definitively from someone that this works on the S, as John's asking. Also, I've heard that Trofeo's only last a couple track days, which would make me pretty hesitant to buy them, especially since they're probably more expensive than the Corsas.

305/30 20 should fit fine.

I wish we knew. At this time Michelin has not made us aware if they plan to N rate the PSS in 20" 991 stock sizing. As you know there are no N rated Michelins for the 991 at this time, and we know Michelin and Porsche are in development on releasing either the PS3 or the Super Sport in the near future - maybe for the Turbo. All of the latest cars are already out (S, Cayman, Boxster...) and they are not OEM on those cars.

Porsche has about the highest bar out there, and they simply will not N rate a tire until it gives them exactly what they want.

Not much of an answer I know, but it's the best one I have. Honest.

305's are supplied on the rear for the 991S 2 when you order the Sport Techno wheel option. These wheels are 1/2" wider front and rear than the other 20" supplied for the 991S 2.

That would lead most of us to believe that the 305 might not fit well on the 20x11 wheels.

Has anyone had any success with a 19'' wheel and a less expensive R like the R888? Not really liking the idea of spending 2200/set on Corsa or Trofeo.
