Couldn't agree more. We buy the cars for ourselves. If I wanted a relatively inexpensive "look at me" car I'd buy a Viper. They get more attention per dollar than just about anything else. I owned three of them in the 2003-2006 timeframe. The TTS is stealth compared to those.

Here's my suggested approach:

Rube: "Say, what kinda car is that you drive, yo?"
Porsche Owner ("PO"): "Oh, it's just a Porsche."
Rube: "Oh ya, I love their cologne! By the way, which Porsche?"
PO: "I'm not really sure, green, I think. Maybe grey/green."
Rube: "It's inconceivable that you are not sure."
PO: "Well, I just wanted a car in the "P's." It came down to Prius or Porsche. It was a really tough call so I flipped a coin, and it came up Porsche. Whatta ya gunna do?"

Just tell them you have an oversexed Volkswagen. And I agree with 911TurboS. No reason to care what other people think of something so shallow as what you drive.

I have a C2SC with a number plate that reads "Fly 911". I'm always asked what that means. My reply is, "it means you're not a car person". end of story.

I have to agree with the others in the "who cares what anyone else thinks" camp.

Anyone who is privileged enough to drive ANY new Porsche has already managed to give the "Flying Fickle Finger of Flip-Off" to anyone and everyone driving an average SUV/sedan/econobox.

A 911 is a fantastic car, in any configuration. Enjoy the ride that most other people will never get to enjoy.

If you are happy with your C2, no one else's opinion matters. From experience, the people that make the "just a base 911" comment are usually driving a ****ty econobox and are nowhere near being able to afford a 911.

Absolutely right. I expect that 99% of the general public couldn't care less what type of car that someone else is diving, much less know the differance between different Porsche models. In my area I expect that almost no one could differentiate a 981S from a 991 Turbo if the cars had no badges. I purchased my first 911 in 1970, and my recollection is that the engine produced around 150 HP, but I don't think any future 911 I owned gave me more pleasure than my first one.

In my milieu, virtually no one has a clue that Porsche makes different versions of the 911 or even that it is a 911.Furthermore, the fact that a Turbo gets you 2 base 911s is completely unknown. If one purchases a Porsche for status elevation or to impress others, my condolences. Forget what others think. Buy a Porsche because of how you feel when you drive it and for no other reason.

I remember many years ago when MB first introduced the C Class, one of my friends who had been driving the S Class was so upset. He said, "I will make sure I tell people I drive a MB S Class instead of just MB."

Wink Op is an idiot

Whaaaaaaaa... When I ambiguously respond "911" after someone asks the type of porsche I drive, I come online as a grown man to whine and humiliate myself why people can't understand that a 911 is always a 991! Why do they ask what kind of 911!!?? They only have made several types of 911s over 50 years. Lmfao this dude is full retard. grown man cry baby pansy going full retard on a message board. Ahhhhh hahahahahahahahahaahh
