Hello;
wondering if anyone can help, my car has 5k miles and is about 6 months old.
The "change engine oil now" message came up on my car which surprised me given the mileage and age. I checked the level which was low, at the minimum level actually, and added about 3/4 of a quart which brought the level up to the correct level.
but whenever i start the car i get the same "replace oil message'
So, does the engine management system check the quality of oil to determine when it should be changed regardless of mileage?
I have done 2 full track days in the car, rest is mostly regular driving, havr donre 3 launch control starts!
TIA

I have read on here that you get that message based on time so the car was probably in service 7 months before you took delivery of it. Mine went off right at the anniversary but i oredered mine and picked it up the day after the truck arrived.

2 full track days? 5000 miles since new? Gee, sounds like time for an oil change. Oil is cheap, Porsches are not.
I imagine the car uses either an optical sensor or some type of conductivity measurement to determine the presence of oil breakdown products.

Mine told me it needed an oil change after 2 days and 225 miles! There is a time sensor as well as the mileage sensor. During PPI omeone forgot to set your time sensor to 1 year... or they set it to 1 year 5 months before you took delivery?

just had my first change at 6500 miles, bought car in early September '12 but it was a dealer demo w/88 miles so I think they did another PPI before I got it.. didn't get a check oil light but a letter from the dealer offering an inspection and 50 dollars off a change if I wanted one. Sneaky hehe

Actually a really good question, I'd be thrilled to learn that there was some sort of actual "oil condition/analysis" sensor - but I bet not, just a combination of time & mileage probably...
