question re sport chrono and sport exhaust
I am about to order a new Carrera S, stick shift (I know PDK is the rage, but I'm old school). I was going to order the sport chrono package but my dealer (who is very knowledgeable and a straight shooter) says it is no longer necessary on a manual because all Carreras now come standard with a sport button for more aggressive engine mapping. He says the sport plus setting on the sport chrono (for manuals, not PDK's) does not further change the engine mapping - it only delays PSM, engages PDCC, and stiffens the suspension. The package obviously includes the timer clock but all I care about is the more aggressive mapping. So if the dealer is right, why spend the extra $$.
Can anyone confirm or refute this info?
Also, I was going to pass on the sport exhaust as I thought the extra $3K only adds a bit of additional sound. And the stock sound on this car is pretty nice (especially compared to my 2011 C4S). But again my dealer says they have been "unofficially" told by factory techs that there is about a 10HP gain in the sport exhaust system. It is not published because that would require additional expensive crash testing, etc. I never heard any of this before.
Anyone know about this?
Thanks

Sports chrono also adds rev matching in the manual too.

Anything that restricts exhaust is bound to restrict power, so of course the less restrictive PSE frees up some hp. Motor mounts can make a noticeable difference. Only way to know for sure? Drive em both and see.

everyone is right, pse mandatory for maximal fun and minimal regret. when i push the pse button, my age drops 50%
sc really only mandatory for the tracker or racing purist. i doubt the way i drive on the street that i'm taking full advantage of the dynamic engine mounts. but heck, i wanted it anyways!

If I got an MT I would FOR SURE get sport chrono package. The rev match feature (only available in sport plus) is amazing (I have it on my 370Z). Even if you're just driving in traffic. I would like my 370Z a lot less if it didnt have that feature.
I regret not getting PSE but will soon be adding it.

Two things I would not skip
Having the ability to go stealth mode is good. To my knowledge PSE does not add power. I had standard S exhaust and added PSE. The sound is totally different.
PSE with the valves closed is much quieter then standard S. With it open it is louder and different. Standard S sound nasal from the sound symposer, good but not great. PSE is more exhaust sound and the symposer is in the background. I only turn if off to make phone calls.
Sport Chrono for you is about the mounts. I have a little over 2,000 miles but in my experience while going around a turn aggressively in sport mode while hitting bumps I swear I feel the engine bouncing around and taking the rear with it. It is a bit unsettling. With Sport plus on it is more planted. I think the engine mounts have more value on the street where it is rough then on the track.
In for a penny in for a pound. You will be happy with the car.
Good luck Bill
