Default 7 spd MT with X51

Still no good reviews of this package? I'm surprised as it may be the last gasp of the manual transmission. Maybe there just aren't enough suckers like me willing to consider paying up like this for a few more hp!

Search around, the comments are out there. The gist of it from what I've read is you get a little more tractability, a little smoother power delivery, and the biggie, it pulls real hard right to redline. While there is more power across the range most of the extra 30 hp is concentrated there at the top end. Not sure though which you're more concerned with, the X51 or the MT? The are a lot of people who like to save money and there are a lot of people who don't like change, so the MT is probably years from "last gasp". The PDK GT3 though probably marks "the beginning of the end."

Hi Chuck. Thanks for the response. I am going to try driving the 7spd C2S in a couple of weeks. Hopefully the X51, which sounds essentially like a blueprinted engine, is even better. I just want to make sure for the 100K price difference, I'm getting a significant upgrade to the 355 ponies in my 05 C2S, which I've always wished had a little more power.

Rest assured, you are getting much more than a just a 45hp jump in HP by getting a new 991.

+1

I just made that exact upgrade (without x51) and it is like a different car, in a good way.

"Blueprinting" is a very old expression that merely means using higher tolerance parts, in terms of both dimensions and mass. Back in the day, a "blueprinted" engine, with pistons matched to a gram and thousandths of an inch, might well put out more power than its assembly-line version built to tolerances ten times greater. Today however every Porsche engine routinely exceeds those old "blueprint" standards, and an X51 has a lot more going on than just taking things to a higher level of precision. That's not to say they don't use tighter tolerances and better balanced parts. They almost certainly do. But by far the bigger improvements are from new and better designed parts, intake, etc. Good luck finding an X51 to test drive. I've never seen one, and even here on RL only a very few guys have ordered one.

Exactly my point- I think that if I am happy driving the 991S I hope to be thrilled with the X51 when I actually receive the car!

Default PDCC

Is the general consensus now to leave the PDCC box unchecked?

I'll be happy to provide you with a review, but it will be a while. My car is not due here until June and then according to the X51 installation manual it requires 6200 miles of break in before you realize the full benefits of the power kit.

Hey Jim, if I can offer a bit of friendly advise, I wouldn't make a decision based on consensus because it's offen based on opinion and not critical analysis. The consensus was that the X51 was not worth it and that folks considering the power kit should just wait until the GT3 is available. Based on my analysis, the X51 option in combination with a carefully optioned C2S is a much better choice for me, than a GT3.

This is true! If you follow the directions then full power/RPMs will not be used, therefore you'll not experience full benefits! Logic, gotta love it!

what he said

I too had the choice to wait till the GT3 but I am one that believes all street sports cars should have 3 pedals.. I cried myself to sleep the day it was fact that the GT3 would only be PDK.. luckily I had ordered a MY13 with M/T and X51 and NO PDCC.. will be ripping it through the streets of Europe in a month or so and I will happily report my experience..

I can't wait to hear the review. I think this is the combo for me!

I'm glad I read these boards. Where else would one hear this? 6200 hundred miles is a lot now for me as this probably won't be a daily driver. I wonder if it is this high for the new GT3??

Default Model year change

Anyone know when the '13 becomes a '14?
