A buck forty five is a lot for a dd.
I do love the new vette, but as good ad they make it, they still have the dyed hair, fake tan, gold chains stereotype.
I'd probably keep the 997.2 or trade it on a lightly used tip or pdk turbo.

Chris I forgot about the used PDK turbo, another great choice and ahead of the Vette.
Yea I still want to know who approved the 991 badging. IF there is ONE car in the WORLD that you DONT have to have the WHOLE name spelled out on the back it IS the Porsche 911.
I have to say tho, I respect Rileys opinion and the fact he put a deposit down on the vette is going to make me take a test drive.
One option is sell the X5M buy a C7 and keep the 997.2

Adam could you clarify what they did to WHAT car? your RS or Ford GT? They drove it after you committed to it?
I think because of your terrific business and auto acumen you are putting all these cars on the same playing field regardless of price. The base C7 is in the $50K the 991 RS is going to be horribly expensive if a C4S is $145K. The ONLY reason I put these two cars in the same conversation is because the playing field is leveled by
the almost $100K less price tag.
Probably whats going to happen is I will keep my 997.2 S because its quite a different animal than a 991. and thats not a bad thing

The price for the base C4S is $105,000.
Base to Base would be a better comparison

It will be interesting to see how the final pricing works out. Very few of my friends with Vettes have "base" models- and do have a boatload of options that take the price up farther than most people realize.
Any useful comparison will need to be to reasonably comparably equipped cars.

Not AFAIK, and I think it will be a while yet; we're just getting the engineering analysis stuff and feature discussions in the mags right now. Jay Leno did a web piece on the car, and the most they would let him do was drive the pre-production car around the block with the Corvette guy in the right seat; no video.....
Having had previous experience with my local Chevy dealer, what scares me is the thought of buying another car from and having it serviced by them.

That is my biggest fear also. I think the C7 Corvette is going to be a very good sports car, and I wouldn't mind owning one. I am not into snobbery, so driving one wouldn't bother me, but having to deal with Chevy service would.

The last comparison I read between a C6 ZR1 and a 997 turbo S... The turbo was faster in a straight line, but the ZR1 was faster around the track.
Kind of like the Nissan, the Chevy maybe something to be reckoned with going forward.
I'm thinking about a C7. I'll keep the 996TT, but the C7 would be a fun DD.

I definitely think the C7 is something to be reckoned with; it's going to be a heck of a car. There is, though, a very real difference between the way Porsche and Corvette approach things and the appeal and feel of the cars has always been very different. Buying a sports car isn't a rational economic decision in the first place, so how the car strikes you emotionally is what it's all about. I wouldn't mind at all having a C7, but since I can only make sense of having one sports car, I have to go with a Porsche, and a 911 at that.

Certainly there's a market for this car. Always somebody looking for something different. But Porsche? Scared of this clown car?
Seriously?
What we have here is a car with a lot of hood creases, some seriously overworked exhaust pipes and an interior that looks like a design department threw up in it. Nobody would care the least about it if it weren't for the fact that its fast and called Corvette. But guess what? Making fast cars nowadays is easy, and that Corvette name badge is on a whole long line of cars that never really have stood the test of time.
Contrast that with the work of the fellow who said this:
"Creating something that time cannot erode, something which ignores time both physically and in concept, this is the ultimate victory. The first Porsche, built in 1948, is still with us. Still clearly the inspiration for everything we have done. It will live on in all our cars."
