Default New Car: Warning for out of state delivery

I wish my "new car" post was as happy as most 991 threads here, sharing nice stunning photos of their new baby and being all excited. Unfortunately mine is a horror story, and probably some good information to anyone who is considering out of state delivery and what should be expected.

Car was shipped enclosed from middle of the country to the west coast. When it arrived it was dirty. The driver proceeded to bring bottles of water out as I was arriving at the drop point and saw him throwing the water on the car and wiping the black dirt off with his hands. Before I could stop him getting any further in "washing" the car, he already did the side door and hood.

Only after I gave it a hose down do I noticed how much hairline scratches there are. The inside was also scuffed and floor mats dirty. The areas he did not wash down, the rear and roof, do not have hairline scratches. Not a great new car experience.

Wow, sorry to see this. A hard lesson in knowing or researching your carrier.

I hope the damage can be repaired to new!

Oh no. I've had bad experiences shipping out of state too. As for the swirls, I saw a brand new red 991 get unloaded at the dealership and was surprised how many swirls it already had. Good luck getting rid of them!

That'll buff right out - seriously!
I imagine you saved enough on this transaction to easily pay for a professional paint correction, get it done and move on.

Sorry to hear about this. How does a car get like that in an enclosed carrier? Have you contacted the dealer? Have you had a good detailer look at the car? Hope it all works out for you.

was it the dealer-recommended carrier or a less-expensive one you chose instead?

Very sorry to see the dirt - but congrats on your gorgeous new car !

Strongly believe in not giving business to a company like this one. How about publicly posting who you used?

Not a real good idea. Resolve your issue with the unnamed dealer and or transporter in private. Publicly posting the name before resolution may have unintended consequences.

Tell me about it. In an enclosed carrier it should come out the way it went in. I may as well saved the extra $ and used an open carrier.

The dealer is talking with the carrier now, if nothing comes of it, I'll be for sure posting it here

Thanks!

it was dealer recommended via some system they use, they get bids and i choose the price when the bids come in. the shipping was $1,200 so not sure if thats on the low or high end, but for $1,200 I'd expect it to arrive clean.

No offense but this post seems slightly overdramatized. Your car got dirty in transport and someone touched it with their hands and some water. And car is white which means any hairlines are extremely hard to see unlike with black car.

Nothing here seems like anything that a reasonable detailer couldn't make better than new for a few hundred $

I had an 04 GT3 delivered new from out of state to me in the same condition as yours some years ago. I was pissed, so I drove it home, washed it by hand, and when i was done an hour later I had forgotten about it because it looked new. Do the same and all will be well

Certainly - you just have a great recourse if its the dealer's recommend unit imo no one likes to be made to look bad in the car business.

Sorry for the disappointment but now you can take good care of her and she's a beauty !!
