I have heard the same thing that the X51's are not built on the same production line. When I visited the factory in September it was before the announcement of the X51 so didn't ask. I certainly will ask when I'm there (Zuffenhausen factory tour) on September 13 next.

I have a 991 X51 equipped Cab. At only 1000 miles on the clock I can't say anything meaningful about the power improvements, I still have another 1000 miles to go for that.

I can confirm that the production process does involve pulling the car from the normal line for assembly of the motor. This through my sales consultant off as we tracked it through production. When it reached the state where he normally expect another 3 days to delivery it then went out for over an extra week of work.

It might but it will likely cost more, not have any back seats, probably be PDK only and some will find it's lack of sound insulation and firmer ride less appealing as well.

I just received my Porsche Newsletter. The 991 based GT3 Cup car will be 3.8 liter, 460 hp with a 6sd. "sequential" gearbox. It will have power saving kerosene lighting and carbon fiber landau bars to match the running boards. The first two sentences are true.

Does "sequential" mean PDK? Also, on waiting for the GT3 that wouldn't have worked for me as I wanted a Cab and I don't track/auto X any more any way.

How well would the GT3 do on a snowy winter day in Minnesota? There are reasons that some of us would rather have a C2/4 S with X51 instead of one of the GT models.

"Sequential" on Cup cars has not been PDK.

GT3's...... (991) Probably wouldn't see much snow time for me.

But one could earn money plowing roads with that spoiler/splitter!

More seriously- thanks. Those are the fist pics of the GT3 I have seen. Any delusions I had of dual use, maybe, are quashed as that would be squashed around these parts on the street. Makes the X51 option much more understandable.

and remember, X51 isn't just engine. It also includes sport chrono and sport exhaust which seperately total out to around 6K. So the engine piece is only around 12K of that...

I like the "seperately built" info. Very interesting.

With proper winter tires you'd be fine except in deep snow. Bigger issue is reduced undercoating (at least it was the case on 997s and 996s).

According to the February issue of the German Magazine "Sport Auto" the normal GT3 will be "about" 500hp and have PDK. There may be a Sport/RS/Cup versions which may have different specs.

They are also talking about 550hp for the turbo and interestingly indicate a 3.8 litre Bi-Turbo.

i recently drove a preowned (less than 300miles) 991 w/ x51 and aero kit. It drove very well but its really hard to say i could tell a difference since I havent driven the 991 S for a while. The sound was AWESOME !
