Default 991's direct competitors in today's market

Hey guys!
Every manufacturer and every car class has its competitor, but in the Porsche 991's price, performance and usability range I just don't see it...of course I might be wrong...
What do you gearheads out there think, any examples of direct competitors?
Thanks.

If I was a buyer (and I guess I was 'cause I just bought mine), the cars I would be interested in as alternatives would be - in this order;

1) Aston V8
2) Audi R8
3) Mercedes SL
4) BMW M6
5) Nissan GTR

I may be in the minority here, for me honestly, none. I would just drive an Audi A6 or a Tesla S.

Re the M6 above. One of the German magazines did a comparison of a base 991 Coupe (not S) against an M6 Coupe. The M6 was faster in all regards except it doesn't stop or go around corners as well. On Hockenheim circuit in Germany the plain jane 991 was ever so slightly faster!

Also the Benz is hardly a true "sports car". It's a fine touring car as is the BMW 650 but nothing close to 991 when it comes to handling and overall performance (I have a 2012 650i Cab with the Dinan stage 2 tune - it would stay with a base 991 in a straight line but heaven help you if you tried to stay with the 991 in corners and braking. Both the 650 and Benz are what used to be referred to as "Boulevard Sports Cars" not true sports cars as are the 991's.

Excluding hot rodded sedans and 4 seaters, I think only the GTR and Corvette compete well and sportiness and perfromance- the SRT may but I have yet to drive one. They all beat the 991 on price. The GTR is large and ugly in an attractive way. The Vette just needs a good interior- could be every bit as good. I don't think any comes close for dual use performance and comfort. But when I realy get down to plunking out the cash- there is no substitute.

Aston I just don't know...don't think so...
Audi R8 is very nice, but in terms of usability not really...
SL...no way! Handles like a boat compared to the 991,2 seats.
M6...just No! Much heavier, don't think the cornering comes even close to a 991...although I must admit I haven't driven one.
GTR...don't even want to go there...big,ugly,Playstation interior.

The Vette is a piece of crap. GM just bought back a 2013 I had. It was that bad. I had a momentary lapse of insanity when I purchased it.

That's what got me thinking when I started this thread, there really isn't...
I think Porsche really nailed it this time making the 911 better for every day driving. It might be said that the sales are not spectacular but the economic times are not the same either...
I think we will see a lot more miles being put on the 991s than previous versions, and if they prove to be reliable with high mileage, there's no stopping for them in this market segment...

None of the vehicles mentioned so far compare (just my two cents of course). I will say I considered a modern Ferrari. Looked at the F430 and 458. F430 would have been a serious step down from a 991S PDCC PDK Chrono--a vehicle that is in the 3-second club without a turbo and only 6 cylinders (impressive). The 458 was comparable but grossly overpriced for the road capability. My plan would have been to drive it, not save it as a hanger queen unlike every 458 driver I know in Coral Gables. I don't think a 458 could survive a serious driver, without putting my Collection service manager's kids through college. Nissan was interesting but they took too many shortcuts on quality parts. M6, Asssstons, Jaguars, MBs (and their flagship MB is just a fat ugly pig in the corners that just struggles to stay planted on the road) and so on are in a lesser league, whether priced higher or more "exclusive" than for my purpose, which is to take the car on twisty roads like the Blue Ridge Parkway or places like it. I don't want to be noticed or care at all about perceived "exclusivity." All I want to do is drive--the most fun I can have with my clothes on.

Was waiting for " you don't see it cause the 991 is so big that..."
