am I the only one starting to really dislike the 991

Get a Mini. I sold my base 991 and bought a Mini JCW, its a blast to drive, very fast and nimble, obviously not in the same league as the 991, but for a fraction of the price, the fun factor its all there. Fantastic little toy car, and my two kids fit in the back seats better than in my 991, unbelievable.
I was planning to keep it until my 991S arrives in April/13', but selling it will be one very difficult thing to do.

OP: if you like the light, smaller and simple joys of the Morgan 4/4 or 356 then, yes, the 991 is not your car.
Some good suggestions: either go 'back in time' or buy something new that is smaller/lighter/more direct ranging from Lotus to Cayman R.
Your grumbles about the 991 are reflected in other marques as they 'advance', for e.g. latest M3 vs the E30 M3. Clearly over time popular sports cars (ie not Morgans & their ilk) have increased in complexity, dimension and electronic aids that afford an aloofness far removed the raw experiences of yore - with much less safety.
Horses for courses, eh. Good luck!
ps Selling your 991S very cheaply?

Trade it on the new Cayman. By the time it's being delivered I'm sure a dealer will straight trade your 991 for a 981.

Can't weigh in on the 991 experience...I drive the '09 turbo cab 4-5x/week, BUT my get-around beast is the Cooper S. Ordered new, 6speed, loaded, leather, sport suspension, etc....and it hauls ***. It's my parts hauler (and mud car, etc).
I don't have any trouble parking the '09 turbo or the Cooper, but if the 991 is not the permagrin maker, sell and move on. Spend enough seat time making your choice beforehand. Good luck either way.

well, if I want to drive a big car, I have a suburban, and a 1959 Cadillac. I don't need another big car. This car is dramatically larger than a 993, and I probably didn't realize how big it was, despite test driving 4 different ones over two weeks because I was also testing the Panamera. I think this car is trying to test my patience - today the alarm went off while I was driving to work - I'm sure that something in my pocket must have pressed the panic switch on the remote but what a pain.
What really brought this home for me was that last weekend I replaced the ball joints in my 944, which has something over 250K miles on it - and I drove it around and I just felt relief - "finally a reasonable car" - When I bought the 944 (new), I tested the 928 and rejected it as too large - I think the 991 is actually about the size of a 928. It certainly an amazing car, and as one person pointed out, it has an amazing ability to be somewhat sedate at one moment and pretty fierce the next - that is great.
It's somewhat amusing that several pointed out the mini-cooper as a "small car" - it isn't a small car, it's a pretty large car - small car is a meshersmidt KR-200. The 356 is a reasonably small car, one reason for NOT driving it is that at almost 60 years old, it lacks modern safety features and is not at all clean running (and certainly not "fast" by any modern standard).
as for the comment to get a larger driveway - at least where I live, that larger driveway would mean a new house, and that would cost at least twenty times more than the 991.
I guess I'm somewhat torn - I like many of the things about the car, but I don't like the size and the gratuitous automation and electronics really makes the car somewhat devoid of personality.

Sounds like a Lotus would fit your requirements better. Small, no frills, fast and fun. Having gone from a 993 to a 991, I sort of understand the size thing that you mention. Why not find yourself a mint condition 993TT?

by the way, it's been raining lately - a light rain, and if I come back to the car after letting it sit for a few hours (outside, of course), there is so much water condensation on the inside of the windshield that it is running in rivulets down the inside - I've never had that happen - is this something you guys are seeing?

I know EXACTLY what you mean.
This is why I am keeping my MK3.5 MX5 when my 991 arrives in two weeks.
Both are extremely capable cars in their own ways - but very different ways.
Interestingly, I have a similar combination standing in my hangar - with wings. One is pretty serious and fairly high performance - pretty much a 991 with wings if you will. The other is much more comparable with the MX5. Both are fun to fly but each in its own, very different way.
I am afraid the only answer to your real dilemma is to get a bigger garage !

No offense intended to the OP, but it sounds like you like older cars, and are expecting a modern car to live up to your perceptions from years gone by. Your comment of a current MINI being a "large car" lost me. Almost no one today would consider it such.
You don't need to justify your 991 to anyone here, sell it and get something you really want.
