glass sunroof?

I have not seen any numbers for 991, but assume weight penalty must be less than 997 Targa, which was 132 lbs(!)

Creaks or rattles would be other downside.
Coming from a 997 Targa, I am enjoying sun-roof free experience for the two reasons above.

I have the glass sunroof, I can't imagine it weighs much more then the metal as the roof panel is identical in size and how it opens for both materials. The rest of the mechanism seems to be the same with the exception of the roller shade for the glass.
There was a service bulletin for the glass panel to fix some squeaking when I first got the car a month ago. Sometimes over hard bumps in the city there is a small vibration in the glass when it is fully retracted.

My glass sunroof is perfect (and doesn't make any noise).
I second Justin N, can't imagine glass roof's weight is much more than metal version. The 997 is so heavy bc it's based on the (stiffened) convertible chassis.

Yes, exactly. The 996/997 targa was basically the convertible with a glass roof hardtop welded on. The Porsche system for the 991 is a modular one that has interchangeable parts. Probably makes manufacturing easier as you can have the same stampings for the roof no matter the roof option. Here is a good video to show the concept:

Speaking of sunroofs, one advantage is being able to let accumulated heat out when its pretty hot out. One feature that my BMWs all had was the ability to hold down the open button on the remote, which would roll down the windows and open the sunroof to let heat out while you are walking to the car. The other feature is an up-to-twice-a-day, about a half-hour long automatic ventilation cycle, each of which is programmable for start time. It helps a lot. Does the 991 have either of these features???

No. You used to be able to drop the windows using the key before entering a scorching hot car, this feature doesn't work anymore besides the "key" system is very awkward to use. At least with the ignition on the left it is possible to activate the door mounted window switches and lower the windows before jumping in!

Not a problem in SoCal this past summer but I always leave the s/r raised at the rear with the shade partially drawn so that heat can rise out of the car. Further, I just had Huper Optik ceramic IR blocker film installed on all glass surfaces incl the s/r. Looks and stays cool.
