Why no back up Camera on the 991?

I have front and rear park assist and after getting used to it - its more than enough for me. In my experience it works very well and I feel confident even in a closed cab. I'll still retrofit a Porsche factory camera, though, if I'm able to on the 2012 model.

Holms, that means a lot coming from you brother. thanks. Rainy season almost on us out this way, gonna enjoy what little bit of sun is left. Looking forward to another winter with the car though..too much fun, man.

The Collection Porsche in Coral Gables wants $2190 + tax on a unit I can buy for $900 (they charge $1200 but that includes the camera which I don't think is included for $900 from NAV-TV). They say it's 6 hours of labor. Seems pretty pricey so gonna wait and see if the price comes down.

Interesting discussion here. I, too, would rather have a rear camera than the parking assist sensors. But I like every darn gadget I can get my hands on. As long as the car will still fly...and it will...I'd love one.

The human eye's peripheral vision is far better than any camera will ever be (unless you have a 40" screen in the dash). You cannot see what's coming from either side while staring at the camera when backing up.
Yes they are very helpful when navigating a tight parking spot. The problem is, people are getting accustomed to relying on the cameras solely when backing up which is very dangerous when backing out of a driveway with moving objects coming from either direction out of the camera's view.
Why not parking assist like Ford has?
While we are at it, toss in some curb feelers.
