Why no back up Camera on the 991?
Why doesn't the 991 have a back up Camera option. Porsche offers it on other models. It doesn't add much weight and can work through the NAV screen. You can get it on a new Camaro I thought for sure it would be optional on the new 991. Some times Porsche is a little slow with some options.

Until recently, all MY '14 cars were to be required to have backup cameras in US, but I believe that was delayed. Not sure for how long. My '08 Tundra and my wife's '08 A6 have them and they are very convenient. The Audi's works particularly well.
Why Porsche would delay makes no sense unless they have a target $ amount to recoup on the "front and rear back up sensors" - a camera would the rear sonar completely superfluous.

Yes, and those ugly sensors be gone!
I didn't get this option partly because they are ugly and that I have never had an issue parking otherwise.
That being said, they are a handy feature when parking spots are tight. Had a Panamera S demo for a few days and the camera was very handy especially since the car is so loooong.

back up cameras on 911s? really? ferrari is going to be way behind if that's the case. I can see them on SUVs and truck because of tow hitches. trust me, if you relying on back up cameras when backing up, you are going to regret it one day.

Except, as this thread points out, Porsche doesn't offer a back-up camera on the 991, so I don't see how that makes someone who wants a BUC a perfect 991 buyer.
That said, while I don't have a particular interest in ordering one, I also don't see why a camera would be a worse solution for assisting in backing up than parking sensors. Or for that matter, why it would be any less appropriate on a sports car than any of dozens of other luxury and convenience items that have been on 911s for years now, and which no one is complaining about.

I have a backup camera on my GT3 replacing my pcm2.1 with a kenwood system because with the harness bar, fixed rear wing, 6 pt schroth belts and necksgen Hans type device it is hard to turn your head when backing in or out of the paddock for DE events.

+1....now there's a rationale...

No excuse for not having a rear camera. The sports care argument makes no sense. If you go there then why have AC or a radio at all? 4 ounces of extra weight is a no brainer.

BOLLOCKS.
the sports car argument is the sine qua non of rationales....
Any crap on my 356 that is not out of the factory at Gmünd....should not be there....
Especially those new fangled things called windscreens
True sports cars require helmets...gloves...and glasses....
anything else is denigrating the visceral essence that affirms my definition

seapar has an excellent rationale for having a BUC. When I'm buckled into a sport bucket with harness and closed face helmet, and unable to turn my head very far, it's difficult to see behind. A camera might be nice; not essential, but nice.
