You need these model designations to educate the younger generation so they would know what to buy when they grow up.

Many of my young friends in China think Porsche is an SUV company. These guys in their 20's and 30's are Porsche's growth market and I think Porsche are introducing them to the wonders of 911.

To me it's just a matter of personal preference. My Cayman has model designation delete and I like it. But I can see why others might go the other way. Just another tweak we can do to our toys. All in good fun.

I guess it may be a little too much...

Look! It is a 'Porsche'!
Wait! Not just any Porsche, but a 'Porsche 911 Carrera'!
More! Not only a base Carrera, but a 'Porsche 911 Carrera S'!
Ahem! Not only just a RWD model, but a 'Porsche 911 Carrera 4S'!

In case you miss it, there are two red reflectors under the licence plate that make sure catching your attention to look!

If there is not enough, how can you miss that long red reflector strip that runs across the tail lights on top of all these letters!

May be just a little...

Think I'll eventually remove mine, would like to replace with just the "Carrera S" like my 997 had on the rear. IMO, the PORSCHE lettering is redundant as was mentioned above, everyone knows it's a P-Car

I think 911 4S would do just fine!

I would like to see the options list on there also. In all seriousness, Porsche gives us a choice-with or without, you can have it any way you like.

It should be something like 911-S or 911-4S

It's a no charge delete. I went with "911" instead of Carrera S. Again no charge. I do like a little bit of chrome on the rear (and my wife insists on it and without her blessing no 991S Cab as incoming daily driver)!

You guys make very good valid points but who really gets to order one? whats the percentage of off the lot vs Order people. I think I am getting close to ordering my own, for the first time in 5 911's.

Agree. My 991C2S (due for delivery next week!!!) is the first factory order in my life! I test drove and just fell in love with it!

I have no problem with "Carrera" but not liking the "P O R S C H E". I would take it out and stick them on to my fridge door.
