should be faster IMO... the 991TT or GT3 should be damn close to that and 1/5th the price.

It's all about fun -- the challenge of driving. I think "The Walter" driving the 918 looked like he was bored and disinterested. I think Timo Glock driving the 991S looked like he was engaged and having fun ... and really chuffed with his lap, still going 30 mph too fast as he left the track, rotated it into oversteer as the back of the car left the sealed surface, and caught it without a second thought ... and that's the sign of someone, at least to me, having really become involved in the car and supremely confident with it. Conversely, Walter Rohrl looked to be engaged and excited in the 997 GT2 RS, but in the 918, it all looked subdued and uninteresting. The 991S lap reminded me of the Harris Monkey the first time he drove the 991 in California, throwing it over crests, launching into oversteer with a wheel off the ground ... made me think "yes, this sterile marketing isn't doing the 991 justice, it really can be fun to drive, it's irrelevant that it has more rear seat leg room and that should never even be admitted, let alone mentioned as a feature!"

You have to look at this car as a test bed like the 959. The 959 was revolutionary. It ran 3.7 0- 60 in the mid 80's when that was unheard of. Porsche awd was firmly planted through its technology as well as turbo, engine and chassis engineering. They made less than 500 of them, but it's impact can still be felt today.

The 918 has direct connections with the hybrid GT3R that Porsche has campaigned which has shown huge leaps in fuel efficiency over gasoline powered cars. The technology in this car will shape many generations to come, and that's what it's for.

Cars are so fast now is hard to make something over dominant in performance alone. But this car can still go faster and use less fuel while doing it. All while being a heavy load of car. Porsche isn't making money on selling this car, just like the 959 which they lost as much as the car was sold for in every unit. Technology test bed. There will be a normal gasoline powered one too coming though.

To say Porcsche not making money is a bit of a stretch. Do you know how much this car cost to build and how much Porsche charge the customer?

I know it's very low volume, and the technology in it cost a ton to develop. I'm not their accountant, but if I were a betting man I'd bet they lose money.

How many of these do you really think they will sell at that price? History says low volume cars with steep development don't make money. This one won't be any different imo.

Unless you think it's cheap to make road going separate front wheel awd in a cf mid engine chassis with hybrid full electric power capability.

You try making that up with selling a few cars. Regular cars cost many millions to develop. Just sayin.

Wanna911 is correct! They are losing money with these projects, but it brings them publicity. If I'm not mistaken, they've lost money with the Carrera GT also...
As we all know,Porsche is returning in 2014 to the race that made them famous,Le Mans! They'll be running the prototype 918 RSR(I CAN'T WAIT BTW!!!),so what better opportunity to send their message out there than selling 918 units of the street version the year before...
BTW,my information is all 918 units are sold already at 1 million a pop!!!
