iPhone 5 USB/iPod Compatibility?

Mine works perfectly (Feb 2013 C2S) on USB.
However Bluetooth media streaming is flaky - Bluetooth is a poor technology at the best of times so I kinda expect that anyway. Bluetooth does however work well for phone calls ... go figure.

Just to check, today I tried it with the cable from my iPod with the 30-pin to lightning adaptor and it did't work either.
What year is your car and what version of PCM do you have?

works perfectly on mine also w/lightning cord - car built 5/2012. Dealer even routed cord through corner of center console and into rear of glove-box for cradle. App shown on iPhone 5 is Escort Live connected to the installed 9500ci w/smartcord via bluetooth. A nice function of running the Live app is that it cuts the music during radar or laser alerts.

Btw, I use a USB thumb drive with 4 GB of music on it. Works great, and I don't have to worry about connecting the phone or using battery. I just leave it in the glove box. It holds about 500 good quality MP3 songs, and best of all it's dirt cheap. I might pick up a 16 GB one and load a whole bunch of music on it.

Its a ProClip iPhone 5 adjustable holder with a custom fabricated metal bracket mount for the right side. Benchmark in Seattle fabricated the metal bracket that the holder is attached to.
Porsche also gave their USB enough juice to charge an iPhone 5 through the USB hub, so every time I exit the car the phone is topped off. Thank you Porsche!

I've been experimenting: When connecting and disconnecting I can get the PCM to recognize the iPhone in iPod mode about 1 in 20 times of trying. I've tried it with two different iPhones. I wonder if it's a problem with the PCM or just with the USB connector in the glove compartment. Any ideas?

My iPhone 5 works perfectly via bluetooth or as an iPod via lightening cable into USB port. BT connects automatically within a few seconds of getting into car, every time.
To all those having problems - it should work. So, make sure phone software is updated and/or cable is original Apple one. If still no joy it can only be a problem with PCM and suggest dealer must sort.

How do you like the escort live? I too have a 9500 and smart cable but sadly I have yet to take it out of the box (smart cable). Is it much better than the standard 9500 without it? PM if wish. Sorry for hijacking.

I've installed a 9500ci with and without the smartcord (in two different Porsches). It's not essential by any means, but it's nice. Traveling to Seattle there are at least a few other users sending radar and laser alerts and although I can't say having the Live system has saved me over the regular 9500ci, I really do appreciate being able to use the Escort Live app in the background while highway driving. Sorry also for hijacking

I went to the dealer earlier today with my iPhone 5 that won't work in iPod mode. They updated PCM to 3.41 and the problem persists. I told them that other people reported it working and even tried it on a car in the showroom and it worked perfectly. I was told that since the iPhone 5 is not on their list of officially approved devices, that there's nothing they can do. Specially since iPods and iPhone 4s connect just fine.
In a nutshell : In USB iPod mode iPhone 5s with the original Apple cable can connect in other 991s but in mine only about once in twenty tries. Bluetooth works just fine but I'd like to have a setup similar to Nicoli35's (except I have the Escort SmartRadar instead of the 9500ci).
I guess the next step is to try to contact Porsche directly...

Also wonderring about your radar detector - I love the stealth integration via iPhone app. In your experience, are these reliably "undetectable" ?
Thanks

I'm really sorry to hear of your troubles - this is just very strange that it won't work. Hopefully one of the solutions ibnem2 suggested will help and if not, hopefully Porsche has more issues of this happening and is working on a fix.

[off topic and I apologize]
Thanks, the case is the Sector 5 by ElementCase. I had to take needle-nose pliers and widen the bottom opening (bend the case metal slightly) to allow it to fit onto the power nozzle in the ProClip holder, but it's great with that small adjustment.
Regarding the stealth 9500ci install - I haven't heard of, or had any troubles with mine being detected or noticed through the western states at least. I have a small display over the steering column as well (so it's not really totally stealth) - and it's cool with the Live cord integration to see the display of both the iPhone app and the blue Escort LED reflect distance and status of other's alerts sent over the network. These photos are several months old but you get the idea. With the Live cord installed, I simply use the iPhone app to control everything.
