Default iPhone 5 USB/iPod Compatibility?

Has anyone tried to plug an iPhone 5 into a 991 PCM system? My car would not recognize it as an "iPod" the way it did my iPhone 4S. iPod never shows up as a media choice. I am able to stream via Bluetooth but not through the USB port. (I am using the Apple lightining USB cable that came with the new phone.)

I also have a BMW and it recognized the new iPhone 5 as an iPod device through USB, same as the old phone.

I know other manufacturers are having this issue as well and I think it has to do with iOS6 which is the new OS on the iPhone5.

Have you updated your i4S to iOS6 and tried as well ? I should receive my 991 next month but already updated my i4S to iOS6.
I hope I won't regret it..

Default iPhone 5

I have a 4s but have had IOS 6 for a while, no issues at all with Bluetooth connection, pandora/rhapsody thru Bluetooth. I don't direct connect ever so cannot vouch for that, the rest work great.

It has nothing to do with iOS6 as I have iOS6 on my iPhone 4 and an old 3GS that I leave in the car as a hard drive full of nothing but music. You'll probably need an after market pin adapter.

Works fine for me, by using the Lightning USB cable that came with my iPhone 5. I see the tracks and artists under iPod, just like with my iPhone 3GS.

Same here, my iPhone 5 works with the lightening cable connected to the USB port in the glove compartment.

Mine doesn't work. I thought at first it had something to do with the iPhone 5 but after I read that some people didn't have any problems, I called the dealer and made an appointment to bring the car in. All they could think to do was to upgrade the PCM from 3.4 to 3.41. What PCM version do the ones that have the iPhone 5 working as iPod through USB use? What year is your car (2012 or 2013)?

It may not work with an aftermarket cable or aftermarket iPhone 4-to-iPhone 5 adapter.

It WILL work with the official iPhone 5 lightening cable.

Somehow, it knows when you are using a non-Apple cable and won't connect.
