rnl, Thanks for the info.
Out of all people here, who owns a Radar detector? What brand? where did you get it install?
rnl, I read in some forum that the fine for operating a RD in VA is 40 dollars and that they may take it away from you but return it later, but what would they do if the RD is hardwire into the car? Rip it out?

got car back from benchmark motoring today with 9500ci & smart cord installed. Everything working great. Justin is my go-to guy there if anyone is interested. Next week we are putting on a set of Vossen cv3's in matte graphite, 20x8.5 fronts and 20x11 rears.

Been driving around with a custom installed 9500ci for about a year. Excellent performance, especially in regard to eliminating falses and staying abreast (through regular software updates) of the proliferation of photo/speed cameras in the DC/VA/MD metro area.

Never have had a problem when driving in Virginia...the device is undetectable. However, ff you drive around with the laser shifters on you do need to be careful such that when you are illuminated you need to simultaneously slow down and disable the shifters.

While the device is expensive, it's worth it in terms how the 9500 levels the playing field with law enforcement, especially now that traffic-based law enforcement is all about the tens of millions of dollars in annual revenues collected by cities and states. In DC for example, a LEO sits in a squad car every night in a tunnel heading out of town just monitoring a photo radar camera...wtf?

Others may tell you that you need different shifters and that the escort's don't work well, but in my experience, I have gotten lasered by the motorcycle enforcement here in Seattle and with the 9500ci, no problems (yet). The gps traffic camera database is nice also and the radar warnings have always been sufficient (for me).
Where did you have the GPS attenna installed since you have a convertible? I was thinking of installing unit on my 991 but wasn't sure where to have the GPS attenna placed.

Thanks!

Hi - you know, I honestly don't know where they put it - I will try to remember to ask next week when we put the wheels on.

V1s do indeed leak. I used them for years until I was pulled over three times in a six week period. The cops have new equipment and can detect the unit while they and/or you are moving. Switched to Redline and no problems since.

Been using V1 15 years, still works great, but this thread piqued my interest and a quick search turned up this, which answers a lot of questions including where to mount things.....

Z, for photos, you go to "Go Advanced" and upload them there if you are a member.

I have the Escort 8500Ci with the laser shifters. I had my local Porsche dealership do the install. It was the first 991 they had done the install on. They were honest and told me of a local auto installer/mod place that would probably do it for less money; I called them and they had never done an install on a 991 either. In the end, I'd rather go to the Porsche dealer for something like this. They did an amazing job -- it's stealthy and it works.

Great thread. A really useful update on a perennial topic.

It occurs to me that when I first used Rennlist in the 90's, I should have immediately realized the inevitability of social networks and curated content as the way forward to a flat world. (right ...)
Just stands to reason. : )

Thanks Galeno... They just charged for the labor hours, I brought in the components and tools that Escort provided. They quoted me anywhere from 6-10 hours labor, and I believe the labor is around $90/hour. It ended up costing about $750 for the install. The third party install joint quoted me around $550-$700. It's just a better idea to go to the dealer; anything goes wrong, they'll fix it and cover it. I couldn't be happier. It's saved my *** multiple times already. And I hardly know it's there.
