This article at Autoblog says the rumors say the engine has been moved forward "a bit".

Will the 991 GT3 be a mid-engine, with the engine in front of the transaxle?

Thanks for the link.

Do the hips on that rear end look similar to the newly released 4 body?

Could the std. GT3 be a wide body?

Yes, this car is a widebody.

No. Just like the regular 991, the engine will be moved forward a little which in combination with the stretched wheelbase changes the F/R weight distribution slightly, but not mid-engine.

Are sure? Maybe it is setup like the GT1 race car that looked like a 911 on the outside but the engine was where the back seat should have been.

There have been a lot of rumors about it.

If the new 991 GT3 is mid engine, I will pay your Rennlist membership for the next 10 years.....

Yeah, F1, FIA GT1, LeMans Prototypes and most other top level race cars run crappy automatics.

All GT3 911s have had only two seats. Nothing new there.

Easy. With the 991 Carrera S already as fast as last years GT3 and way faster around any race course than the 997 CS, Porsche had to step up its game and get rid of the antique parts.

Eventually, they may have to stick the engine in the middle, but for now they are keeping the essence of 911 in a vastly more capable car. The race organizers have already allowed teams to ditch the Metzger block for the stock DFI 991 to make the cars competitive. Every race team is chomping at the bit to ditch the current short wheelbase car for the 991 shell so they can begin to compete with the leaders again.
