Default Quiet and Comfortable

Okay... I know I am sounding old... and maybe that's where I am at this point in my life. I read magazine reviews that stated the comfort level increase on the 991 vs older models but to what extent? I like to drive long distances... 3+ hours... Can someone tell me how much more comfortable and quiet for these long drives will a 991 vs 997.2 be? I owned an '08 4s previously and it was okay on long drives but got difficult after the 3rd hour. I know these are sports cars please understand that I love 911's and don't want Lexus, Aston Martin, etc.. I want a 911 but also want great comfort.. Any thoughts on the increase in quietness and comfort levels?

Thanks in advance

These are very comfortable touring cars. An 8 hour drive would be no problem. I was originally worried about that and its a nonissue.

drove 3000 miles in the first week with my 991... never had an ache or any discomfort... the sport plus seats were amazing... (my previous 997.2 had standard seats and they weren't as comfortable... not much bolster support to help keep weight/pressure off lower back)

Seventh gear is an overdrive- if you fit the seats, its like fine sedan, but with better MPG.

Spend some time test driving the 991. I drove my 997 to the dealer and drove a base and s for about two hours, without a salesman in the car. I had pre-arranged this with the dealer, and they were very accommodating. I thought the ride was much better (softer?) in the 991 compared to the 997. It feels very much like my BMW, but better. Cheers.

The 991S just seems to bridge the gap between comfort/sport/track. It is the every day sports car hence its desirability.

Just got back from two 6 hr drives...it's pretty comfy. Two things that still bothered me...Tire noise is annoying and ridged pavement practically screams in the car (thanks I-40). I hope it's just the stock tires. And I think it's a safety issue but like the rest of the recent cars I've owned, the head restraint position sucks over the long haul, and of course it's not adjustable. Literal pain in the neck. Oh and bumps are a bit jarring, but at least the car doesn't skip to the side at 80mph like my jeep does But considering it's a sports car, it's really my favorite road tripper out of all my recent autos! I can't compare to the 997 though, sorry

IMO, much more comfortable than my 997.2, however still fairly loud tire/road noise inside. Less direct feedback from road surfaces (not necessarily a good thing) but easier on the driver on longer trips...still a sports car though.

I never felt that my 997.2 S cab was not comfortable enough for day long drives. What I objected to was the noise. When driving on a concrete road surface you could barely carry on a conversation. The 991 is amazingly quieter.

Drove the 997 from DC to Montreal (no overnight stop), Orlando (no overnight stop), and Miami (1 overnight in Savannah). Never felt tired, fatigued, or uncomfortable; I am old. She has sports seats. Sport chrono was off for most of those trips, although the average speed may have been better than the average.

Sport Pilots are my favorite tire, but you could probably mitigate road noise by using the Conti tires. Hope to enter the 991 world soon when my order is done.

Am I the only one who finds threads like this odd when we are discussing a 911?

Comfy ride, quiet ride, electronic gizmos... where are the sports car fans for whom car dynamics is all that matters? Manufacturers make what sells, and one must conclude that 'sport cars' buyers are going soft.

tire noise and engine drone bothered me much more on a 3 hr drive to ac then it ever did on any 997. reminded me of a 996 w fabspeed and tiptronic which was deafening

I think when you compare, new car buyers (991) to used car buyers (996 or even 997) the new car buyers are older. It's simple - you almost have to be middle-aged (at least) to have the income necessary to buy a new 911. And as we get older, comfort - or maybe trying to diminish discomfort - becomes more important.

I was originally going to reply to this post that my 993 was more comfortable on long trips than my 996, but then I thought back to how old I was when I had each car, and maybe it was me, not the car, that changed.

To busy enjoying myself to worry about the ride ( 997.2s) capable of 185 mph.....it better be firm !
