Beautiful GTS. One question, you mentioned that this is your DD, but I realize "daily driver" means different things to different people. Are you driving this year-round as a DD, or more a fair-weather DD? I traded in a 2013 Audi S5 (which was a true DD) and a 2008 Cayman S for a new 991S, which I thought would be my DD, but with the winter we've been having, I relented and went out and bought a new Subaru. Byway, sorry to go off-topic, but am always curious when I read that someone is really using their 911 as a DD in this part of the country.

Now back to our original programming...

Waxer, I love your GTS. I also share your thoughts on the GTS. I have a 2012 GTS that I have had three years this June. That is about as long as I have kept a car. I just can't talk myself into getting something else, at least not yet. I suspect that someday I will get a 991, but going to wait until the 991.2 and see what Porsche does on that.

I use it as a dd year round. Only time I don't drive it weather wise is when the roads are snowy/ icey. When the roads clear I drive it.

Waxer, your gts looks beautiful, inside and out. I believe this is all personal choice/taste, 68k is damn low and its a waste if you don't. That GTS don't look outdated to me, and I have the new 50th edition. This shouldn't be another silly debate of which is better. Its always better in diff eyes, mind, opinions, and or diff situations. Like your situation, I'll buy that in a hearbeat for under 70k.

So congrats to IPSE for his C4S, and enjoy it in good health.

Waxer, your car looks stunning. Killer color combination, inside and out. Just beautiful.

2013 base Carrera: bottom of the barrel of the new.

2012 GTS: Best normally aspirated effort ever put forth by Porsche, including the new 991S, plus it's had much of it's depreciation already done.

Easy decision for me.

991 c2 might be the bottom of the barrel, but it is still superior to a 997gts.

"Superior" in what way? Newer chassis, longer wheelbase? Yes it's new. But the GTS is more far more powerful and superior in many ways, including far better performance than the base 991 and far better looking, especially when viewed head-on. I find the 991 bloated fish-eye look unappealing. But that's just my opinion.

The base 991 is newer than the 997 GTS. But newer isn't always superior.

Just as Kelly Osbourne is younger, I'd still take Cindy Crawford. She's older but way better looking and is overall, to me, way more superior.

Just like the GTS is

Guys, thanks for the compliments. Yes, at $68K for buyout I feel compelled to buy it for many reasons. As I said this is the first car my wife is actually lobbying me to buy at end of term. Says I am making a mistake if I don't. I tend to agree. Car listed for $127K and is loaded.

I will say, hate to say it but the new Corvette and especially the new Z06 is killer and has me really thinking. The new Z06 is drop dead and amazing. I think Porsche will need to get very aggressive on their numbers and leasing programs for the GT3 and Carrera S if they don't want to lose buyers.

I will likely stay with my car though since I do think the GTS will become very desirable in years to come and it is a "Carrera" which never goes out of style and remains timeless. But boy that new Z06...Damn!!!

base 991? i'd take a 997 GTS ALL day long. 997.2 in any form destined to be one of the greats and will age very well. to this day i still think about trading back from time to time.

Why would you compare a base 991 to a GTS. I think they are both really good looking cars and Waxer's car is drop dead gorgeous. I would like to see who really thinks a 2012 GTS is a more powerful and better handling car then 2012 991 C2S.

Uhhh, you might want to read the title of this thread. That's why we're comparing a base 991 to a 997 GTS

Fair enough but it is still a silly comparison. It is not hard to find 2012 GTS or 2012 991 C2S for sale around here for the same price. So if the OP is looking at 2 cars just because they are right in front of him at the dealer I think is fair to point out the cars don't really match and there are other choices if one looks around. I am also guessing by the date of the thread it is moot point by now. So uhhh why would people continuer to make that silly comparison other then to feel good about their GTS ownership.

Well, we can't control what threads people start. We can, however, choose not to comment, or see the title and respond accordingly. Or not

Of course, you're welcome to start your own thread if you find any thread silly.

Isn't the Internet amazing that way?

I wonder how often you choose not to comment? Perhaps this is difficult for you. I responded because I think the comparison is silly and perhaps some other people including the OP might agree that there are other more accurate comparisons. Not everyone agrees with everyone else or do people only respond to threads that they agree with. Isn't the internet amazing that way?

Enjoy your GTS.
