2013 911 (base) or 2012 911 GTS?

It is close. Look at stats. Then thrown in the fact of a bigger wheel base, wider stance, an engine closer to the middle, lighter etc...GTS is insane but give credit where credit is due. The 991 is a superior design with improvements everywhere. The improvement in the design including a better PDK narrow the performance gap to virtually equal. The GTS has better stigma b/c it's the 997's last hurrah. Luckily I have tracked them all

The GTS is one sweet car but it has been superceeded by the 991 in most crucial dimensions. My dealer had several at less than my 991S. Drove one and loved it, and voted with my purchase so am biased.
But, if I were going to shop a new 991 against what can be had for a similar price, I would look for something truely exceptional rather than an end of model "loaded with desirable options" special. Minimum a GT3 or if possible a Turbo S.

With an extra 58HP over the base 991, the GTS is likely more than a bit quicker, and no doubt has superior steering feel. Everything else on paper favors 991. It's almost a "hot rod vs. GT" choice, in Porsche terms.
Looks, of course, are subjective.
Either way you'll end up with a great car and plenty of grins.

I can only speak from my personal experience (991 carrera s vs. 997.1 carrera), but I enjoy my 991 much more that my 997 as a daily driver. Realize the cars I'm comparing are different from what the OP is considering, but I think my 991 is head and shoulders above my 997 in terms of luxurious interior, smoother ride, creature comforts, performance, etc.
Is price is a limiting factor, could consider a gently used 991S - there are a few out there that can be had for nice discounts. that might be competitive compared to what you are considering.

I had the same options when I was shopping ... and chose the 991. I'm not a track guy, so the decision was actually pretty easy. I really like the GTS, but I couldn't imagine taking it over the 991 as a DD. But I agree with the posts above that it is largely subjective, of course.

The GTS is one sweet car. Love it. But here would be my problem with buying one today. For me, it is too old to be new, and too young to be a classic (yet).
The GT3 comments above do make sense to me if one were to reach back to an outgoing 997.
That said, both are fantastic.
Oddball random thought -- the carpet in the GTS is way nicer. Seriously.

GTS, period. Bigger engine with significantly more HP and Torque, bigger brakes and should hold resale. If you want a 3.4l, buy the 981 Boxster S. It has the same performance as the base Carrera while looking at least 20 times better and costs a lot less.

Personally i would never buy a brand new Boxster, with that amount of money i would buy a used 911.
Hope Porsche will replace the soft top with hard top, like the BWM Z4.
Then Boxster would be perfect )
